The "tithe" is Old Testament Law. Only one of 613 of them.

There are actually 3 "tithes" and they add up to 23 1/3 percent per year. (Two at 10% and then a third at 10% but it is only every third year so that is where the 3 1/3 comes from).

The tithe was in produce not dollars. Grain etc.

A principle purpose of the Tithe was to support the Levites in their roll as priest.

The Jew was to keep all 613 Laws. And if you try to keep them today and broke only one you broke them all as James so deftly pointed out ... Jam 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Christians on the other hand are not under the yoke of the Law. None of it. The very first "Christian counsel" made that decision ... Act 15:10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

Our Apostle Paul did take up gifts (as those so blessed could afford ... no fixed percentage ... not a tenth or 23 1/3 percent) ... to be given to the poor brothers and sisters in Jerusalem from all of the cities which he set up churches in.

But Paul also worked for a living as a tent maker at times as he didn't want to put any kind of a burden on the Christians.

I wonder why not many preachers have sermons which point this out ... ? :rolleyes

All of your money is the Lords ... not what you give the Church. You are the church not that brick building you go visit on Sunday morning.

The Lord just provided it to you and He doesn't need a "refund" to accomplish His will.

It is quite acceptable today to give to your local church or what ever charity you might like ... if you have excess. If you don't have excess the Lord doesn't want you "going without" ... be a good witness with 10% of your time if you are fixated on 10% ...

I would bet that some of you spend 10% of your time witnessing on this forum ... consider that your "payment" if you will :thumbup

Not one single person God intends to save will be "left behind" due to lack of funds. But there are plenty of poor children out there to help if you can spare the money to help ...

(sorry for the rant but it drives me crazy all this TV preacher nonsense about sending them your money to be a faithful Christian:gaah )

Great post.Well between you and jelaine you do more good than a whole room full of TV preachers. I'm very sure the Lord appreciates it more than a few more dollars to make Jim Baker's waterslide longer ...
