It's in the last hours...

We had this happen in Illinois earlier this summer...the only bad thing that came out of it was that they "reopened" our state government!:heh

Yeah, I live in Michigan-and the gov told us that they were only planning on shutting down all UNNECESSARY state programs/offices...

To which I say: yes please, and keep them closed!

But seriously, we were at the Sec. of State to renew our license tags Fri because we knew it may be closed...

How irritating that we elected these officials! They are incompetent to do a job that every household in America is EXPECTED to do every month.

And, even worse, we RE-ELECTED our governor, who wasn't doing a good job at the time of her re-election to begin with. It's the voters' fault...I don't feel too bad for those people who voted for her TWICE.

Anyways, we'll sit tight and see what happens Monday.

I say keep it closed! Granholm won't have a chance to screw it up more than she has.

Yeah..

I'm sorry, but I just can't stand our state government! They prevented a gov shutdown by raising income tax and adding a list of services that now MUST collect 6% sales tax from customers...This is yet another decision that will hurt small businesses--which are all leaving Michigan to begin with because it's so hostile here for them!!!

Ugh. Sometimes I think we should just move--isn't there a state that has no sales tax or income tax?

...but, but, but you just know that those darn people shining shoes in lobbies are making a fortune! We had to increase the taxes on that income those rich scoundrels are bringing in! :rolleyes

That's what muslims are counting on......so they can take over entirely.:nod

Come on down to Mississippi. We have a state income tax, but when you retire there is no state income tax on your pensions. You also get a nice break on your property tax when you turn 65.

I wonder if these so called "government shut downs" are not just scare tactics so the masses will swallow the tax increase programs. I would want to see all state employees, from the governor down, take a pay cut before I paid more taxes.

I "love" the line about closing all "un-necessary services." If they are
un-necessary, why are they there to begin with? :idunno

Precisely my point, Cameon. I KNOW that the shutdown WAS a scare tactic...used by the legislature...they were trying to force the gov's hand...but she has always wanted to raise taxes-that's what she ran on...and yes, people STILL voted for her. Ugh. Now they are reaping what they have sown.

I will be visiting Mississippi around Thanksgiving (my sister lives on the AFB in Biloxi)...maybe we'll run into each other! (Figuratively..not literally).
