If you are familiar with the tv series Battlestar Galactica, you will get some of the gist of Mormonism. J Smith's and B Young's writings have been included in science fiction as well. One of the biggest oops was claiming a tribe of Israel made it to the USA many years prior to Columbus. Science has firmly trounced those claims of Mormons.

If allowed, I would encourage readers to go to CARM.org - Christian Apologitics and Research Ministry. Sound Bible answers to other religions/cults. Links to other sites are included as are materials to answer cults when they come to your door.

Mormon theology is polytheistic ( belief in many Gods) and anthropological (study of human's). (1) God the Father was chosen in a council of the gods on the planet Kolab to be the God of the planet earth. God is flesh and bone, has all the attributes of man, and is married. With his wives he procreated all the spirits which are embodied in man and women on earth. (2) All these spirits - except for the spirit of Jesus Christ, fell from God's grace in their prior exisitance and were in need of redemption. Adam and Eve were placed on the earth to provide bodies for these preexistant spirits so that they might receive God's salvation and prove their faithfulness to him by obedience and good works.

The chief consequence of the fall was that men and women discovered their own sexuality; therefore it was a “fall forward," for it made possible the embodiment of the fallen preexistent spirits. (3) Procreation, then, is essential to salvation; this explains the strong emphasis of the Mormons upon marriage and the family and the realization for the polygamy they once condoned. The church's fascination with personal (4) genealogies is rooted in these doctrines as well. By identifying one's ancestors and being (5) baptized for them in one of the many regional temples, those who did not hear the "everlasting gospel" as revealed only through Mormonism will be (4) given the opportunity to receive it and be saved.

(6) Exaltation as a god is much more meaningful to a Mormon than salvation from sin. The end of full salvation is one's elevation to a godhood equal to that of God the Father. This exalted state is reserved for males. (7) A woman can share in highest bliss only through her relationship with her husband, who stands in the Melchizedekian priesthood (2), the highest in the church. Some measure of salvation and entrance into the terrestrial or telestial heaven is open to all persons except the devil and his angels and the most reprobate of humankind. Only those who faithfully follow the mandates of the faith, however, can reach the celestial heaven where they may become gods. (8) Thereafter, they, with their eternal wives, will procreate new spirits and repeat on a planet of their own the cycle of redemption which they experienced on earth and thus eventually redeem the universe. (1)
I got this from www.crossbearer.net. It gives a lot of info on mormonism and how to scripturally combat it.

The planet Kolab Can be read about in the book called Mormon Doctrine by Bruce R. McConkie. It reads that all the gods got together on a planet nearest to residence of god, it is the first in government and last in pertaining to the measurement of time. "One day in Kolab is = to a thousand years according to the measurement of this earth. Book Of Abraham 3:3-9

John Ankerberg has a bunch of articles on Mormons, and pretty much every other cult.

We've got terrific neighbors who are Mormon. My wife and the Mormon woman go toe-to-toe quite a bit on Christianity vs Mormonism. She's very well versed in the Mormon theology, so it's tough going, but it makes us think and study.

My dear friend just left the LDS church and her husband (whose family is DEEP into it) has just disowned him and it is horrible. However, now that they have left, they have gone wild. Drinking ALL the time and partying and recently having an extramarital affair- they have three small children. She was such a good person (b/c the LDS want everyone to be like a robot), but this turn of events has got me down. I feel I contributed (a small part) to her leaving the LDS church and I am almost sorry b/c she might be worse off, I don't know.

Anyway, when she was way into it, she had the missionaries come to my house all the time. It was awful and finally my husband told them to leave us alone, but they didn't. Not until their "tour was up" and new missionaries came to town - they gave up on us fast. I also went to their "Relief Society" with my friend and it is a thing for women in the church b/c they only want you hanging out with people in the LDS church, so no one will question their beliefs. When my friend brought me, ohhhhh, they were very stressed I was there. They were nice, BUT did not talk much infront of me.

My father is a direct decendent of Joseph Smith - the guy that "invented" the Mormon Church. His does geneology for fun and has brought us lots of information on him. We are all convinced that he was mentally ill. His own wife did not join the church at first.

Also, when I asked about polygamy within the church. I was told b/c so many mormons were killed at war or defending their faith, the only way to keep the church "alive" with members was to procreate. (I guess if you cannot get members to your cult, you just make them.) So, a man would take on his friends' wives should they die in combat or martyerdom. I guess she couldn't go find another husband?

I won't even go into the secret temple ceremonies. Ohhhhh, the sealing ceremony is down right creepy. Remember, only LDS members are allowed into the temple. I was told b/c it is such a pure place they cannot let outsiders in. I suspect it is due to their crazy ceremonies.
