View Full Version : In light of nuclear power fears, will Israel's natural gas be the "plunder" of Ezek 38?

I was watching the Piers Morgan interview with Benjamin Netanyahu the other night, and something hit me when Bibi mentioned his nervousness about building nuclear power plants. He mentioned the recent natural gas find in Israel, and it made me wonder if that might be the plunder that is mentioned in Ezekiel 38. With so much fear about the safety of nuclear power and the Middle East turmoil threatening the flow of oil, it occurred to me that Israel's resources could be what pushes its neighbors into a surprise attack. Thoughts, anyone?

10 “‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: On that day thoughts will come into your mind and you will devise an evil scheme. 11 You will say, “I will invade a land of unwalled villages; I will attack a peaceful and unsuspecting people—all of them living without walls and without gates and bars. 12 I will plunder and loot and turn my hand against the resettled ruins and the people gathered from the nations, rich in livestock and goods, living at the center of the land. 13 Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish and all her villages[e] will say to you, “Have you come to plunder? Have you gathered your hordes to loot, to carry off silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods and to seize much plunder?”’

"rich in livestock and goods"...

I believe natural gas is defintely a significant good that could be described this way.

That is what was said when the natural gas and (I think) an oil reserve were found off Israel's shores. Must've been a year or two ago.

It makes sense that the hook in Gog's jaw would be a natural resource that is very high in demand, and will only continue to go up in value.

What's so interesting is that this idea was actually floated even before Israel discovered natural gas and oil.

Hmmm... interesting. What strikes me is:

After the Leviathan discovery these numbers could go up further. Perhaps for that reason, Greece has been talking to Israel about creating a transportation hub for distributing gas throughout Europe from the Eastern Mediterranean that will come from undersea pipelines.

If I recall correctly, Russia pretty much has a monopoly on natural gas transport into Europe. They would see this as a huge threat to their economy, and I could see them wanting to go in over that. I could never really see why Russia would really care what is going on with Israel, except getting dragged into conflicts because of alliances with Iran. Even then, I've always scratched my head over why Russia would bother with the God/Magog invasion. This could be it. :thinking
