Why Doug Pagitt Is No Longer Speaking at Wired2Grow
Source: Christian Research Service
LTRP Note: Below is an update regarding yesterday's story: "Doug Pagitt No Longer Speaking at Southern Baptist Convention Wired2Grow." Christian Research Service spoke with Public Relations at the BSCNC office yesterday (Sept. 28th) and was told why Pagitt was not going to be a speaker at the event.
We pray this move by the Southern Baptist Convention (North Carolina) to reject the emerging church movement will set a precedent. :pray:prayWhile LifeWay Christian Stores (SBC) still carries books by Pagitt and other emerging church leaders, perhaps the actions of BSCNC will inspire LifeWay leaders to break ties with contemplative and emerging spiritualities.
The following is a partial list of contemplative/emerging authors represented at LifeWay. Some of these also promote outright the New Age:Ken Blanchard
Laurie Beth Jones
Tony Jones
Brennan Manning
Pete Scazzero
Gary Thomas
Richard Foster
Spencer Burke (The Ooze)
Eddie Gibbs
Ryan Bolger
Ken Wilber
Special Report by Christian Research Service:
"Emerging Church Leader, Doug Pagitt, Dropped from Southern Baptist Conference"
September 28, 2007 - According to the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina (BSCNC), the Wired2Grow Conference, slated for October 16, 2007, is a "premiere one-day conference for church leaders," which "promises to be another great experience for those who are serious about engaging fresh ideas that lead to new ministry action and produce kingdom fruit" ( http://www.wired2grow.com/ ).
The conference, sponsored by the Congregational Services and Missions Growth Evangelism Group of the BSCNC, included Rick McKinley (pastor of Imago Dei Community in Portland, OR, and Emerging Church consultant), and Emerging Church leader, Doug Pagitt (pastor of Solomon's Porch in Minneapolis, MN).
But according to information obtained today from the BSCNC's public relations director, Doug Baker, Doug Pagitt has been dropped from the conference.
During an over-the-phone conversation with Baker, Christian Research Service was told that information concerning Pagitt's views on "homosexuality, Christology, [and] the innerancy of Scripture" had been provided to the BSCNC after the initial invitation was extended to Pagitt.Click here to read the rest of this CRS report.
