I'm just sick. Not only did my state income tax just get raised but my business is a service business and we are going to get hit hard by this. 6% will now have to be charged on all the services we offer.
I haven't raised my prices in 15 years because of the economy here. Now I have no choice. I can't believe these politicians can't see that this is just going to put even more of us out of business. And this coming on the heels of just raising the minimum wage. UGH! This poor state.

I'm also in Michigan, and I'm looking for work! I doubt I'll find any. I'm moving to Tennessee next summer, decision official as of now!
Either way, keep Michigan in your prayers too!

Not only a 6% increase in the cost of your services your clientel will face, but... you now have the administration costs of collecting, handling, and reporting that... :sad

Question: Why should goods be subject to a sales tax, but services not?

The problem is that we have such a large tax on us already from so many different directions that there isn't much left over any more to live on. And because the infrastructure of the government is so large they need more and more taxes to make it run. It is out of control and many can't take it any more.

Which party runs the state (rhetorical question)? And what do the propose to do with the added tax confiscation?
Hope the nation sees what's going on there and sees what could potentially happen nationwide in 08'. :tsk

Democratic governor and democrats run the state. The proposed tax will be to simply keep the government running. It will not fund new things. This state is hurting badly because so many have moved out and the tax base has shrunk, but the government has not gotten any smaller. Less people paying more money.
It stinks.
