Greetings folks.
I don't have time to explain this all right now but I will later.
I would like to ask for some unbiased and honest opinions about a book called "Foundations" written by Tom Holladay and Kay Warren (Rick's wife). Apparently it is a "purpose driven discipleship resource."
In it is a chapter on the Second Coming.
Here is the summary teaching outline (for the second coming chapter):
Events of the End Times
Jesus Christ is coming to the earth again
The Tribulation
The Rapture
The visible return of Christ
The millennium
At the end of time what will happen to...
Believers
The Jewish People
Unbelievers
What should our attitude be?
Be alert and watchful.
Be alert and self-controlled
Live holy lives
Be patient and eagerly wait.
Long for his return.
Anyone read this or know where it fits in with our views on end times?

IMO--->>I would not have a thing to do with ANY purpose driven agenda PLUS the publisher Zondervan.
Foundations is the Gold Medallion award-winning complete resource for teaching believers the essential doctrines of Christian faith, providing the theological basis for living a purpose-driven life.
Tom Holladay
Tom Holladay is a teaching pastor at Saddleback Church
I also wouldn't have these people teach us anything Biblically if they are not solid themselves. Man's methodogy vs. God's word.:ohno
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths 2 Tim 4:3.4

Kay Warren recommends Henri Nouwen's book, In the Name of Jesus and says this about Nouwen's book, "[I]t hits at the heart of the minister.... I highlighted almost every word!"

Sing4Him,
I've gotten through the first links you sent and am working my way down but wanted to respond first.
I left a church several years back for some reasons. First was people speaking in tongues then interpreting for themselves.
But I have a friend who recently started going there. They were doing a whole bunch of Warren things including purpose driven life and something about days of community.
Well, I brought up end times and that was it. I'll describe that part more in detail later.
I said to the guy that Warren should be avoided and he responded by stating that they aren't big on Warren but that they do use some of his stuff. He also basically said that it would be a shame to throw out all of Warren for just some bad things, so they pick and choose the parts they like.
Well, after reading the website you sent me it appears that is exactly the tactic of Warren when it comes to dealing with Merton and others!
How can this church say they aren't big on Warren when they employ his tactics perfectly! Picking and choosing what we want from authors....in my experience people who do this pick the parts that prove their own position.

You have come to the truth on this. :nod
One could reverse things and say,
"oh.. we use pieces of scripture" (Bible) and have a "statement of faith" on our website..
Much of what is seen is a smokescreen for neglect of the gospel with attempts to "sound Christian".. "Christ-follower"--
Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils 1 Tim. 4:1

AND
Woe unto them! for they have gone the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Korah.
These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;
Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever. Jude 1:10-13
These are the plans Adonai has for false teachers, by whatever surname!
Shalom in Christ
