This quote bothered me the most...According to the Apostle John the history of the world is infused with the presence of the Antichrist too...As sound pre-mil/Pre-tribbers, that statement should concern you when you meet people involved in this movement. They are being set up for the coming "one" who will claim to be bring peace to the whole earth. They will believe he is 'god' because, sadly, a lot of these people are not being taught the True Gospel of Jesus Christ and the need to be born again in order to see the true Kingdom of God. :candle

Tony Campolo is a walking contradiction. I would never say a person is saved or not (who can know) we might judge their fruit, but only God knows if they are saved. But his words make little sense and he is wishy-washy in his beliefs.

Tony Campolo and his wife Peggy, a gay rights advocate, have participated in very public debates and discussions about the place of lesbians and gays within church and society. Tony Campolo contends that homosexuality is a sin in practice, though not in orientation -- though he also argues that gay people living together in a committed, sexually active relationship, is morally preferable to less than monogamous relationships.

Peggy Campolo argues, as an Evangelical, that the church's traditional teaching on homosexuality is mistaken -- just as the church's traditional teaching on the role of women, slavery, and divorce is also mistaken. - (source: Straight But Not Narrow, Keynote address, Evangelicals Concerned Western Region 1994 - audio cassette) Peggy Campolo attends Central Baptist Church in Wayne, PA. Central Baptist identifies itself as an open and affirming congregation.

Quote: "I have serious problems with fundamentalist Christians and their creationist theories. Although I believe that scripture is divinely inspired and infallible..." :idunno

P.S. - I'm not sure if Tony is Emerging, but he is a "Red Letter" Christian, which means he only follows the words of Christ.

Tony Campolo, if I'm not mistaken, also believes in religious pluralism, just like Jim Wallis. They also believe the biblically incorrect idea that the Pauline Epistles are, unlike the Four Gospels, not inerrant.

I too have noticed that many, if not most, of the errant groups seem to have a problem with Paul and his epistles. I wonder why...:scratch Oh, I know why; because you absolutely cannot get around the clear message in Paul's letters concerning the Atonement, Grace vs. works, Salvation in Jesus Christ and NO ONE or NO THING else, and of course, the Rapture of the true Church. All doctrines that stand alone, and crush all other foolish systems.

I have noticed more and more how errant groups say things like, "Jesus said _____" then proceed to massacre His words, intent and context. I used to have such a problem with the "Lord, Lord" section of Matthew 7, but as this emergent stuff keeps emerging I am beginning to understand it better.

Indeed! As the anything goes 'gospel' continues it's march down the road, we know that the hour is short!

This is an excellent article.

I have some questions and comments:

1.If the Jesus of the emergent/emerging movement isn't the same Jesus of the Bible can anyone who gets saved throught this new and improved theology really be saved?

>I don't think so. If people have found a new and improved way that excludes the Bible, it's not the True way they are following.
John 14:6
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

2. Is this "false conversion" spoken about by some (for example: Ray Comfort)

>I believe it is. Sadly people are using their feelings rather than the Word of God to determine their salvation.
Rom 10:9
That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved."

3. If the Jesus of the emergent/emerging movement isn't the same Jesus of the Bible who are they really following?

>I believe it is Satan disguised as the new way, the new Jesus.
Isaiah 14:12-15
How you have fallen from heaven,
O morning star, son of the dawn!
You have been cast down to the earth,
you who once laid low the nations!

13 You said in your heart,
"I will ascend to heaven;
I will raise my throne
above the stars of God;
I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly,
on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain.

14 I will ascend above the tops of the clouds;
I will make myself like the Most High."
15 But you are brought down to the grave,
to the depths of the pit.

Ezek 28:11-19
11 The word of the LORD came to me: 12 "Son of man, take up a lament concerning the king of Tyre and say to him: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says:
" 'You were the model of perfection,
full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.

13 You were in Eden,
the garden of God;
every precious stone adorned you:
ruby, topaz and emerald,
chrysolite, onyx and jasper,
sapphire, turquoise and beryl.
Your settings and mountings were made of gold;
on the day you were created they were prepared.

14 You were anointed as a guardian cherub,
for so I ordained you.
You were on the holy mount of God;
you walked among the fiery stones.

15 You were blameless in your ways
from the day you were created
till wickedness was found in you.

16 Through your widespread trade
you were filled with violence,
and you sinned.
So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God,
and I expelled you, O guardian cherub,
from among the fiery stones.

17 Your heart became proud
on account of your beauty,
and you corrupted your wisdom
because of your splendor.
So I threw you to the earth;
I made a spectacle of you before kings.

18 By your many sins and dishonest trade
you have desecrated your sanctuaries.
So I made a fire come out from you,
and it consumed you,
and I reduced you to ashes on the ground
in the sight of all who were watching.

19 All the nations who knew you
are appalled at you;
you have come to a horrible end
and will be no more.' "

4. What will be the end for all who don't follow the True Word of God

Revelation 20:10-15
10And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever.

The Dead Are Judged

11Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them.

12And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.

13The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done.

14Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death.

15If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.
