I'm putting this in homeschooling but I think it is more about me than actual homeschooling. I hope no one minds that I have done this. I've been working on putting together a History program as some of you have heard me say before. I didn't really know my target age when I started and I'm still not real sure on it. I know it is a little deep for younger Elementary age kids, but older kids who like History may like it. I'm thinking it is really more for grades 6 and up. Any way, that's not the point of this post...I was just thinking out loud for a moment.
My point is how much I have learned by doing this! I don't think I was taught HALF the stuff I've learned in the past few months. I have been hooked in History and have soaked up everything I can and I am craving more! I don't want to just know that people landed here called pilgrims, but I want to know what they did when they came here, how they afforded to get here, why they had to make the Mayflower Compact and so on. I just remember being taught the simple story of religious freedom and them sailing a long way over here and landing in Plymouth Rock and having a hard winter. There is SOOOOO much more! Now we are studying the time between 1650 and 1750 and there again is soooo much more! Wars I didn't know much about, people who fought in them that learned the ropes that in return helped up win the American Revolution, taxes and limitations...not all of it being new, but more than half of it being new! And I wasn't a bad student in History. I always did well in school and college in History, but they just don't teach this stuff.
I really think I am going to publish this! I want kids to know more than the bare bones History they are learning. I want them to know that so much more happened and they can learn from History to take them into the future. I'm excited and nervous, but I really think I am going to do this! I just wanted to share it...
Thanks for listening
