Tired of foreign wars and what they consider right-wing courts, the Middlebury Institute wants liberal states like Vermont to be able to secede peacefully.
"We believe that an independent South, or Hawaii, Alaska, or Vermont would be better able to serve the interest of everybody, regardless of race or ethnicity," said Michael Hill of Killen, Ala., president of the League of the South.
Do they have their dates wrong and this is an article from the 1800s?? What do you make of this and does anyone think this has to do with any type of prophesy?

I don't believe this has anything to do with prophecy. Now, even though secession IS legal under the Constitution, the last time a section of the country tried, they were forced back into the union at the point of a bayonet. It took four years before. I think it would only take a matter of months to accomplish the same thing now. Plus, the 14th and 15th Amendments have pretty much made sure that states were stripped of all of their powers. I agree with the League of the South in principle, but I know what they advocate is no longer possible.

I can just hear them now:preach
Well the train to Grinder's Switch is runnin' right on time
And the Tucker boys are cookin' down in Caroline
People down in Florida can't be still
When ol' Lynyrd Skynyrd's pickin' down in Jacksonville
People down in Georgia come from near and far
To hear Dicky Betts pickin' on that red guitar
Chorus:
So gather round
Gather round children get down
You can get down children be loud
You can be loud here and be proud
You can be proud here be proud you a rebel
Cause the south's gonna do it again
Elvin Bishop's sittin' on a bale of hay
DARN right hansome and he sure can play
There's ZZ Top and you can't forget
That old brother Willie's gettin' soakin' wet
And all the good people down in Tennessee
Are diggin' barefoot Jerry and the CDB
Chorus:
So gather round
Gather round children get down
You can get down children be loud
You can be loud here and be proud
You better be proud here be proud you a rebel
Cause the south's gonna do it again
and again, and again, and again

Secessionists meeting in Tennessee

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - In an unlikely marriage of desire to secede from the United States, two advocacy groups from opposite political traditions — New England and the South — are sitting down to talk.
Tired of foreign wars and what they consider right-wing courts, the Middlebury Institute wants liberal states like Vermont to be able to secede peacefully.
That sounds just fine to the League of the South, a conservative group that refuses to give up on Southern independence.

IMHO, the only state that could literally 'get away with' doing this, is the state of Texas which if I recall correctly (been a while since I lived there) has it in their state constitution and agreement to join the union that they could succeed and become their own country.
Not that i think it would happen or anything...
And I come from the state that succeeded the Union first... SC.
With everything as intertwined as it is right now, I just can't see people getting on board with that plan.

This is obviously an embryonic movement, but the idea has merit, imo. I don't think many people in the south want to be choked by the ultra liberals in Calilala land or the liberal N.E. Perhaps the best form of government for the US would be a confederation, where some of the liberal policies of those who want to dominate and dictate to the entire populace, might be minimized.
