I need to lose about 20 pounds, and I'm sick of people saying that I don't look like I need to. My clothes are all tight and I look pregnant. All the flab hangs out in my belly area, and my upper arms and under my chin. I try not to talk about wanting to lose weight too much to my very overweight friends/family but what they don't understand is that I'm just as miserable with myself. I'm not happy with how I look. But I also feel very miserable, when I eat a lot of junk it causes a lot of pain in my stomach and when I'm not exercising as much I am more out of breath.
So, I'm back to walking 5 miles a day a 2 to 4 days a week at the local park and drinking more water and eating the same foods, but just smaller portions. So far no real big change because I fall off the wagon too much, but I have a good feeling I'll stick with it this time, (mainly because the weather is nice again)
Good luck to all!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you eat to little you are always hungry and you will mess up. Try eating more vegetables and fresh fruit. Sparks people is good because you can keep up with your calories. If you eat too little it will mess up your metabolism. I eat a cup of low calorie vegetables at lunch and supper along with meat and a half cup of rice or potatoes. Even when we have spaghetti, I eat a cup of frozen mixed vegetables.
You should eat a couple of snacks a day to also help your metabolism.
yogurt, sugar free pudding, fresh fruit etc are good. Make sure you are eating 25-30 fibers a day. Fibers are also good for your diet. There is a book called Fiber35 that you can get from most Libaries.
Good Luck!

I want to quit. Seriously I do. I have found that with my metabolism only one of 2 things works and neither is a lifestyle change that I am willing to make right now

1) eat 1200 calories a day (no more) and speed walk for 30 min a day. I can drop 2 lbs (if that much) a week that way.

2) total atkins with NO low carb products. So I have to give up real and fake sweets! As much as I like my meat and such I also like my sugar.

I hate the way I look. I could stand to lose about 90 lbs and I know that my husband hates the way I look too. He loves me. Don't get me wrong, but I am just not attractive....

So here I am all open and exposed to you. I hate the way I look but I am not will to take the drastic route. I want to eat like a normal person. 1200 cals is just not enough. I can do it for a few days or even weeks and then I am sick of not being able to eat a cup of ice cream.

Please pray for me

If you lift weights and have more muscle, you can eat more calories.

You may want to research a program such as body for life for women

Yes, you will burn more fat, 24 hours a day, if you have more muscle. That is why men (more body muscle) lose weight more quickly than women (less body muscle). It's not because we women aren't trying - we just usually have to try harder/longer. Not fair, but it's the way we were made - blame God. LOL

Well then are we going against God by trying to be ultra thin? I mean God made us cushy for a reason... so that our babies would be protected right?

Ok I am not justifying me being fat... but I don't want to be ultra thin either... I was just thinking out loud

I don't want to be thin. I just want to be more healthy.
When I lose 13 more pounds I will be at my goal weight.

I plan on joining Weight Watchers on Tuesday. They have their free registration going on now, so the only cost is the meeting fee ($12.00/week). I've done their program before and I think it is by far the best for me (and I've done so many plans, including low-carb, low-fat, and Weigh Down). It's the most reasonable for me because I can eat real food and not have to worry about fixing one thing for me at dinner and a whole different meal for my family.

One thing I would like to suggest is to make your weight loss goals small. With Weight Watchers your first goal is to lose 10%, then once you reach that the next goal is another 10%, and so on... If you focus on the entire amount you have to lose, it will be overwhelming and you will feel defeated before even getting started.

Good luck to everyone, no matter what plan works best for you! :thumbup

Yes. I started last Monday. I need to lose 100 lbs. I am going at this 20 lbs. at a time and have no time limit and am not obsessing about it. I drink 1 or 2 slim fasts a day, eat smaller portions, eat at least 5 times a day and some of those 'meals' are a serving of fruit. Watch the carbs, such as bread (I am a bread-a-holic). I am up now because I felt hungry, so I ate a little bowl of cereal, topped with 3 rasberries. I'll have a slim fast for bkfest and then eat a lite lunch. I do take supplement vitamins, I added a diet supplement pill and also minerals, 1/2 tsp.

I am going to weigh myself 1 time a week.

I am 53, I have to be careful and this isn't about anything except battling sloth and gluttony. I do feel better. How do I know, I took an impromtu walk with my Grandson today to the school playground a block away. Now, that's not far...but he's 2...usually such an activity would have canned me, but I had energy for the rest of the day.

God Bless everyone on their endeavors!

I'm losing via Spark People too. I've lost almost 20 lbs and 20 inches since August which is slow and steady. I'm eating more or less what I want, just really watching my portion sizes. I couldn't believe how much I was eating before I really started paying attention. I'm also exercising which is something that I didn't think I could do because of my Fibromyalgia. My fibro is actually much better since I started moving more. I've also got a great support group that includes my two oldest daughters and my sister-in-law. We keep each other motivated and accountable. I've still got a lot of weight to lose.

I'm struggling the last couple of weeks because my DH is on vacation and loves to eat out. We're also running around a lot and my exercise time is really hurting. We're leaving Thursday to go to Talladega for the Nascar race so this week doesn't look too good as far as exercise. I'll be doing a lot of walking though once I get there. :willie

I wish you all the best of luck as you work on improving yourselves. For me, this isn't about getting thin, it's about getting healthy and being there for all of those that count on me. What I've done to my body over the last several years is a sin and I truly feel sorry for allowing myself to get so out of shape.

hugs,
Pam
