My Mother died of ovarian cancer...her sister died of breast cancer.
This left my sister an I with a 1 in 5 chance to get ovarian, breast or colon cancer.
I had to have a hysterectomy about 10 years ago, many a years of female problems. I was 41 then. After my surgery my Dr. said I had ovaries of an 80 year old woman. I was a candidate for ovarian cancer. Just from the looks of what she removed.
You just make sure your Dr. is hearing your complaints and discomfort and do tell him of your Aunts cancer. Hereditary factors can play a role. Best wishes to you and My Prayers are with you. Prayerfully this is just something plain and simple and easily taken care of...God Bless

Okay, I went to the doctor and what an ordeal. I gave her a sheet where I had typed every symptom I've had in the last few months. UNFORTUNATELY, my men.cycle decided to arrive 1.5 week late and started yesterday so I couldn't have my pap done.
I had blood drawn which will look at hormones, etc..., a pelvic exam where it hurt when my cervix was pushed on and my colon...breast exam, where she is pretty sure I have another cyst (my other one 2 years ago was benign) and she looked at where I had used a black magic marker to mark areas around the breast that hurt when pushed on. Turned out these areas are all on the chest wall so she sent me for a chest xray along with the bloodowork. I go back in 2 weeks for a pap, an ultrasound of my uterus/ovaries and an ultrasound on the breast. Along the way she noticed a pimple looking thing underneath the breast that looks odd so I go back for a punch biopsy on this. IF ALL COMES back NORMAL, she will treat me for IBS. So many times Dr.s immediately treat you for IBS and ignore all the above mentioned stuff and then you find out too late you had ovarian cancer, etc... So, I am very thankful that this Doctor decided she would take this route (at my gentle request :) !) and rule out all of this stuff before looking at IBS. I really appreciate your prayers..I felt very calm, focused etc...during my appointment!

Ok two or three things jump out at me on this one.
Has your OB/GYN talked at all about testing you for endometriosis? It sounds eerily similar to many of my complaints, not to mention that many folks who have endo, have other auto-immune disorders such as Gluten Intolerance or outright Celiac Disease.
I highly, Highly urge you to do more research, and when things are better (as in AF gone), get some more checkups and even a second opinion.
What has your Primary Care Physician said, if anything? I'm sure the two doctors can surely share notes and let you know what they both think..
I unfortunately had a really horrible GYN and was put on medication I likely should not have been several times, not to mention my Celiac Disease went loooooooooooooooong overlooked.
It took my mom figuring out my sister had it, then that she and my dad did, and me doing research on my own to figure out I also had it and talk to my GP about it. He said it was likely, considering the symptoms and the way testing was/is done now and is so inconclusive unless you are really "classic" - that it wouldn't hurt anything to go on the diet and see how things improve in 3-6 months. I wouldn't go back if anyone paid me.
Check out Endometriosis Resolved (http://www.endo-resolved.com/) Basically the diet is a casien-free gluten free diet - though not completely (since it includes Barley and Bulgar Wheat). I've modified it for myself, taking down my sugars (since I don't really have too much trouble with sugar) as well as taking down my caffene intake, and I totally removed all offending grains from my diet.
I have now progressed to reacting topically, whereas it was just internally and the doctors would say "IBS" and all tests came out "inconclusive"....
Our primary care said that basically "IBS" is standard doctor code for "I Be Stumped", only that they know it has to do something with your gut and immune system, but they haven't figured out the how, when or where yet.

So glad, jar, that your Dr. responded well to your gentle encouragement to look into the OV CA first off. You are right; so often this is delayed, and then it can be too late. Please continue to keep us posted. We really do care how you're doing. :nod

After reading your post please please read the Dr. Lee book. Also, ask your doc to do a saliva test for hormones. Blood tests do not cut it. They don't test right. For your IBS go to the health food store and ask them for a natural digestive enzyme. You will be amazed at how it works to get your digestive system back on track.
I teach natural health classes at doctors offices. You really need to educate yourself.

You know what I started using. Aloe juice. If you get George's Aloe juice it tastes just like water. It does wonders for your digestive tract. Give it a try. It works for acid reflux on my husband and my daughter. It makes sense because when you burn yourself, you put aloe on it to sooth the burn. So that is what it does to your digestive tract. Read up on it a bit. Try this before taking any IBS meds. They always want to pump you with meds!:doh
