hey issachar, we're in the same neck of the woods. I grew up in T-town, and my parents currently live in the B.G. area.
My hubby and I actually just moved to MI ( yeah really!!) because he got a job in the Auburn Hills area. his is a high tech job in robotics. However we can't buy a house yet because we're waiting for our home in North Carolina to sell!
We are horrified at the taxes we're looking at having to pay once we buy a home here though. We'll get a great deal on the house, but be making it up in the yearly taxes.. :(

but at this point all our family is in MI and OH and worth the price to be near them again...

Most of the country and the world see what Michigan legislatures did was a grave error and their actions will destroy this state and leave it a shell. Articles in the Wall Street Journal (which can only be read by subscription only so I cannot post it here) and National Review plead with Lansing to change their decision. Also, the following links were found at the Wall Street Journal as recommended reading.

Read these articles:

And there was a scathing editorial from the Wall Street Journal on Oct 2 titled Hail to the Taxers with the last sentence reading "the only way for Michigan go get more jobs is for those in Lansing to lose theirs."

And from another post referenced from the WSJ article:

"For those who have studied the Depression, this "hair of the dog" strategy will sound familiar. The stock-market collapsed produced a large, world-wide recession, but it took Congress and the Hoover administration to really kick-start the depression. They passed the Smoot-Hawley Tarriff Act, which started a protectionist trade war around the world. It threw millions more out of work here and almost destroyed the global markets.
Adding taxes to Michigan amounts to a domestic Smoot-Hawley approach."

Anyone who owns a home in Michigan can't move because there are no buyers.

Everyone is trying to get out - so there is no one buying!
Wow...I'm so sorry for all of you out there. I will be praying for you. :pray

I wrote to my congress reps and asked them to PLEASE hire a decent econimist to advise them as to what direction to go because from the Wall Street Journal to every other person who knows anything about economics will tell you that what Michigan law makers are doing are all the WRONG things.

I heard Greenspan was available - maybe he will offer some pity advise.

hey issachar, we're in the same neck of the woods. I grew up in T-town, and my parents currently live in the B.G. area. BG is where I go for car titles, etc. being it is the county seat. One of my sons-in-law grew up there.

Emily Ruth, I don't think you would want to get Mr. Greenspan's advice. His way is to just debt your way out of debt ....... huh? :scratch

At this point - Michigan just needs to get out of the hole long enough for us to be raptured - so anything is better than taxing us into oblivion. LOL

I'm in NW Ohio about a 10 minute drive from Michigan. I have several friends, mostly Christian that work at GM Power Train, Jeep, Ford Stamping in Maumee and Chrysler. Many are out of work and have been for some time. Last night at Jeep, they told 3rd shift bye-bye because they are stopping the production of the Dodge Nitro due to lack of sales. Last year Ford decided to close the stamping plant in Maumee in 2009. They changed their mind though. It is being closed down now. I have been out of permanent work for 5 years and 2 months. My career was in electronics. I don't want food stamps and that just because the rules to receive them are stupid ... I think they are great though for those that need them. I do need them, especially right now .... I don't know ... I more than qualify, but they want my wife and I to go to classes all day every day for a month to get them. They want to teach us how to buy healthy food, be frugle, how to fill out an application, blah, blah, blah ..... I'm a professional and have all that well under control but they are not able to discern. I have to work whatever work I can day by day ...... NOT sit in ridiculous classes all day for a month.

I will honestly keep all who are out of work, in prayer. It is serious business. If it wasn't for Jesus ..... I can see why so many that don't know Him crack under some of the pressures today.

Sounds like there rules for food stamps are not for people who are trying to work and help themselves. It's like they expect and encourage people to be lazy to get the help. My husband was layoff and had trouble finding decent work for a couple of years until he started his own business. For one thing, he didn't want to settle for minimum wage when he used to make $18/hr. Everyone acts like your just suppose to be happy to get any job.
