We have a light schedule in the summer but we don't ever take it all off
I guess that's what we actually do too. We try to do one "fun" thing during the summer like typing, art, or whatever.
Whats your dark schedule?

Why are silly things always funnier when you've had a bad day? :scratch

I'm glad to find this posting... I was just coming out to post and ask if anyone homeschooled, LOL!!
I guess you could call me a wanna-be homeschooler!! I have one DS who's 4 1/2 right now. He has been in Christian preschool. He's still enrolled for next year, for another year of preschool, but we're really considering becoming a hsing family. Public school is totally out of the question for us in our current situation (and maybe ever at this point). We have a great Christian school where he currently attends preschool.... but it of course is not cheap, plus he is advanced in reading and math and I just wonder if we would do well with him being able to learn at his own pace and at different levels. I'm still hesitant, but we keep studying and keep praying.
Nice to hear there are so many of you here that live this life! If that's the road we end up traveling, I will be glad for the wisdom!!

:candle Hey, I need some advice, ladies.
I have 2 girls, both in a small rural public school, in WA state. The 14 y.o. is starting high school next year, and can't wait, 'cause she is looking forward to the different art programs. She is a pretty stable, modest type.
My 11 y.o., however, is going down a bad path with bad company. It seems that no matter how much we talk and pray, she is becoming more hard - hearted. :gaah
We are seriously looking into homeschooling the youngest next year, but I'm overwhelmed with all the different materials. We are far from town, and are trying to be pretty frugal with the money, if you know what I mean.
Any suggestions on what materials might be good to start with? Or any other suggestions under the sun???
I have read most of your posts (in tears), and admire you all so much. So, help me!!!

I am still running across people who say homeschooling is a bad idea because the kids won't learn how to socialize and function in the real world!!! UGH!!!!!
I feel like I should tape my repeated explanantion and proven statistics and studies....

That is such a bunk about kids not learning social skills, when they are at home, they are more apt to learn properly those necessary social skills instead of the tacky social skills everyone else learns in school. and if you go to church to fellowship, they are around other kids of their own age and they will socialize.
On Wednesdays at the church we attend, I allow the girls to get on the church van and they have a blast and they learn.

Broken, what to start with is such a hard question! I would first find out what your daughter is interested in. The first year of HS needs to be de-schooling. It is a big change going from conventional school to homeschooling. It is always nice to take it easy and let them get used to being out of the school. Find out what type of learning style your daughter has and then get things that will interest her. Make it fun but educational.

Theres no truth in this, take it from a home school grad. I was homeschooled from 3-12 grade, and had plenty of socializing such as Wed night Bible Club(AWANA) Church on Sunday, Art lessons, Piano, Swiming, Field trips w/home school group believe theres plenty of ways to socialize a home schooler
