A ways back someone asked what is everyone's favorite thing about homeschooling. I agree with what everyone said, but have a new one to add. I love seeing the relationships grow between my 4 girls. There is a gap between the first 2 and the last 2 and they wouldn't even know each other if the older two were in school all day. (Which is how it was in my family growing up.) It's also good for the older two to have responsibilities in helping to care for the younger two.
I SOOOOOO understand this one. My 4 girls are 13, 7, 3 and 2. My 13 loves her sisters SO much and I love the bond they all share! ANd can I just say that if anything happened to me I KNOW my olest daughters could take care of the other 2 just fine.

Ya, I have lots of their stuff, but I'm a Science junky and have in my mind what needs to be taught. I enjoy putting curriculums together and am actually working on a few right now. Who knows, maybe one day I'll publish them :pray
Ohhhhhh I would be very interested to hear about it if you do get published!
I like keeping a variety of sources on hand, as the kids are varied in how they learn :thumbup

I don't know how I missed this! I totally completely agree! Even in our homeschool playgroup parents comment to me about how close the kids are, and loving. It's not often you will see a 13 year old teen boy let his not quite 2 year old sister, get in the middle of his vision when playing a video game, and instead of hollering for her to move, just pick her up and sit her on his lap.
I'm not insinuating this does not happen in outshooled homes. Just that it does appear to be more prevalent in the families where the kids are with their siblings more often than not. My boys are more concerned about the feelings and inclusiveness of their younger siblings than their 'space'.
We never ever hear the words "you are too little to play with us" or "get out of my room". At worst I hear "mom, is it their nap time yet?" LOL Because its at nap time they pull out the stuff they do not want the little ones 'helping' with. :thumbup

Way late on chiming in on this, but I'll chime in anyway :)
I have just one DD, age 5.
We are currently using:
Get Ready, Get Set, Go for the Code (Explode the Code Phonics Primers)
Handwriting Without Tears
Modern Curriculum Press Math K
God's World (A Beka K Science)
Studying God's Word (Christian Liberty Press)
We're moving into Grade 1 stuff as we finish K-
Explode the Code
Modern Curriculum Press Math A
Health, Safety & Manners 1 (A Beka)
Discovering God's World (A Beka Science 1)
My America, My World (A Beka History & Geography 1)
And we're currently reading The Boxcar Children series.
Homeschool Tracker is a free program that is great for keeping track of assignments. I'm not consistent with putting things in right now though. I tend to just write dates on the workbook pages as we complete them.
I have the Grade 1 "Pathway Readers" workbooks and readers, but have ended up not using them so far. The "Learning through Sounds" phonics program that they use just wasn't clicking with DD. I also tried "Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons" and that didn't click either. But I got the Explode the Code workbooks and she's blowing through them.

Hi! I'm new but I do know this topic! I've got a 13 year old daughter going into the 9th grade and a soon to be 12 year old son going into 7th grade.
We use a variety of materials and always have.
Homeschooling has been a blessing to our family!
