John 16:2-3
..."yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. 3 And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor Me." NKJV (Emphasis mine)

I was reading through the scriptures today and this verse immediately jumped out to me in light of Radical Islamic beliefs. :rolleyes

Is this scripture speaking to "end-time events" regarding Islam (for example) or am I taking this out of content? Thx in advance!
I think He was talking about circumstances throughout the Church Age.

First, the non-believing Jews killed Christians before the destruction of Jerusalem. And they killed because they believed they were doing God a service (stoning blasphemers).
Saul was doing this before his encounter with the Lord on the Road to Damascus.

Later on, the RCC burned people at the stake for owning a bible. They did not want people to search the Scriptures for themselves, which would result in their questioning the authority of the Pope/local clergy.

In England, they did the same thing to people who translated/read the Bible in English rather than Latin, a language not readily understood by the common man.

Then of course, there was the treatment of Jews during the Diaspora. Didn't matter if they accepted Jesus Christ as their Messiah or not. The gentile Christians thought they were doing a great thing for God.

About radical Islam: I don't think this scripture refers to it because allah is not the Judeo-Christian God of the Bible.

And it will continue in the Tribulation when those who kill Christians will also think they are doing God's service. I also don't believe it specifically refers to Islam, but believe it refers to those whom Jesus warns us about: Those who come in HIS name with lying signs & wonders, false prophets, false prophecies, etc....in other words, a false Harlot Bride of Christ who rises against the true believers in the last days.

The pagan Romans killed in the name of religion, too.
State Religion =emperor worship.

But the scripture posted by the OP is about killing in the name of the Judeo-Christian God, and thinking it is pleasing to Him.

So that would refer to first century Jews killing Christians, and the RCC killing Jews and "heretical" Christians who dare question the motives of the clergy or wish to read the holy scriptures for themselves in their own language.

Many people confuse allah with Our Lord because of the Abraham connection.
Because allah isn't the God of the Bible is why I don't think Islam is what Jesus is talking about.

As far as the timing in question, it is always possible this will also occur in the end times.
Much has already come to pass, as recorded in the history books.
