(I'm not trying to be argumentative, this is a sincere question and something I've wondered about for a while.)

In my reading and studies, I come across teachers who say that the 144,000 sealed from the 12 tribes are "evangelists". Where are people getting this from, that these 144,000 are doing any evangelizing? I would like to see some scriptural basis for this and I haven't seen it yet. I mean, I figure there has to be some reason that very knowledgeable pastors are saying this, I just haven't come across it yet.

Thanks!

Here's an article by Dr. David Reagan that suggests the 144,000 are considered evangelists by both implication (bond-servants of the Lord) and by surrounding context in Rev. 7.

:) Here is another great article called "The Message of the 144,000 Future Jews for Jesus" by Bill Salus (from RR's Main Page). I found it to be very interesting :hat :

Revelation 7:5-8 identifies these future evangelists by their ancient tribal origins. From each of the following twelve tribes come 12,000 members who commit themselves toward godly servitude: Judah, Reuben, Gad, Asher, Naphtali, Manasseh, Simeon, Levi, Issachar, Zebulun, Joseph, and Benjamin. According to Revelation 7:9-10, these 144,000 witnesses turn out to be instrumental in escorting many end time souls to salvation.

Curiously, these twelve tribal patriarchs are not listed in their chronological birth order. Since the Bible normally identifies genealogies chronologically, this contrast is attention getting. Judah, listed first, was actually the fourth son of Jacob and his wife Leah, and Manasseh, Joseph’s son, is listed before his father. Similarly the other names are not listed in any apparent order, or are they? Conspicuous scriptural abnormalities like this compel a deeper analysis. A standard starting point of exploration is to discern the meaning of the names to see if they are message-formatted. This method finds application in the case of the 144,000 witnesses.

Evangelists would have to evangelise, and so if they knew the Messiah, they would be Christians.

Your point apparently being that a Christian cannot be Jewish? Have you heard of Messianic Jews?

Tres, I know that the Messianic Jews started in the 19th century, but do you know what brought them to combine Christianity and Judaism? I know that they were Hebrew, but I wonder how they came to follow Jesus?

Messianic Jews or completed Jews are those who know Jesus as Messiah and Savior. They do not call themselves Christian. It seems that Christian would be a word for a gentile believer, not a completed Jew. They do not divorce their Jews heritage, past, etc. from their belief in Jesus as He does not abolish the law but fulfills it and offers a new covenant.

Can you tell we have been recording and watching the Jewish Jesus on Sundays in our home? Excellent resource for understanding Messianic Jews and end times.

There is a great article this week called Lessons from the Year 3000 on RR. If you haven't read it, you should. I am still studying, unsure if the 144,000 will be killed at some point in their ministry or be a part of the millennial kingdom since they are sealed by the Lord (I should probably study before I post!), but for sure because the Lord is saving a remnant of Jews, some of them will be the believers who will be repopulating the earth in the millennial kingdom as only believers will be allowed to enter it.
