This incident happened this morning right before us going to church, and I didn't even think of posting until I just clicked on this board, but I've been stewing about it all day, so here goes my vent...
In the 80's, when my DH I lived in Orange Co., CA, we met Earl, a mormon bishop. Well I'd learned from my mom back in the early 70's that they were a cult, so I immediately informed my DH when he invited us to "the ward." Then I went directly to the Bible bookstore, cult section, and bought every book and VHS I could find...no internet at the time. Long story short, Earl ended up winning over my DH's parents to mormonism, after having both been raised Methodist their entire lives. They've both since passed (while still mormons :ohno). But Earl continues to call my DH almost weekly. So this a.m., he calls and hubby says we're in a hurry he only has a brief moment to be on the phone. "Why?" asks Earl. DH - "Because we're going to church." Earl -"Which church are you guys attending these days?" DH - "It's called Community Christian, it's a Calvary Chapel affiliate." Then Earl starts in on DH about Calvary Chapel and all the BAD things they preach, so DH says "well, it's just a non-denominational church," utter silence from DH and then I hear him say "no, it's NOT a cult." RRRROARRRRR. I about had an embalism (SP). (and yes, I since have prayed, and asked for forgiveness...)
But, you don't know how for a good five years steady, and then all the way until their passing, I dug in and learned everything about their founder Joseph Smith, all their false doctrine, early mormon cult history, etc., trying to get my in-laws to see the differing ways of the cult vs. Christianity, and it just never worked.
Thing is, just a couple weeks ago DH and I were talking about how near we are to the rapture, and we agreed we need to set time away to take a trip to O.C. so we can make a last didge effort to bring Earl to his senses.....And then, HE has the NERVE to call OUR Church a CULT!!!! How dare him. Oh Lord, just take me up now, I'm so tired. :ohno :idunno thanks for letting me vent. :hehee

I deeply admire all the studying you have done on Mormonism and the way you continue to try to reach out to Earl. Don't beat yourself up for getting frustrated. :hug Hang in there honey.

Thanks so much for your response, Deepcallstodeep! I appreciate you:)
And, I think I'm done beating myself up. I've cast this latest burden unto the Lord, and asked him to just use me in whatever plan he may have. :thumb

I get where you are coming from... it is incredibly hard to present every well-researched, well-thought-out argument we can for Christ to unbelieving friends or acquaintences (or even certain unbelieving posters here for that matter :)) and have them tell us that we are the ones who are deceived. :ohno
As you say, we just have to hand it all over to the Lord. He knows the heart you have for Him... and only He can open the eyes of others... but keep planting those seeds, sister! :hug

My dad was a mormon, and he always tried to convert me and my kids. My kids are pretty grounded in the faith, so they didnt waiver either. As far as I know, he died in his mormon beliefs. I once told him that if it were necessary, I could baptize my own children. You know that is a no no in the mormon faith, only their ordained people can do that. They believe that everyone else is going to hell. You have to be mormon to get to heaven. They have "good" mind washing techniques, they sure work. from some of the reading I have done, it is hard for individuals to get out of that once they are in. Pray for Earl, only God will be able to melt into that stone heart.

Yes, bleesedinhim, I know all about their "ordained." They continually have a modern-day prophet, who receives "revelations" from Father God (even though Jesus was the last prophet according to Hebrews 1:1,2). The last MAJOR revelation one of their "prophets" received was in the 70's, 1972 I believe, when people of color were all-of-a-sudden accepted into the priesthood. Prior to that, colored people were thought unclean and therefore unworthy. Extended mormon missions into South America and Africa changed that, when they found they had to "plant their cult temples" in these areas that were occupied and run by - - people of color, they even changed their mormon doctrine to read as more accepting of these colored-folk. :ohno They also can supposedly attain the level of the Levitical and Melchizidek priesthood. Which is totally bogus according to scripture.
And yes, statistics state there are approx. 12 million mormons (however, once you're excommunicated or leave the cult on your own, it's IMPOSSIBLE to get you or your offsprings' names off the rolls :mazy) so, who really knows how many are "mind-washed" these days. I guess when you compare that to the 1.4 billion muslims, it's a drop in the bucket. But, I still pray for them all.
Just think how hard satan's minions have been working all these years. :rolleyes It's so sad. :ohno

I so know where you are coming from. My sister told me I was in a cult as well. (I attend a Calvary Chapel in SLC). Another sister told me "as soon as I was healed I would come back to the Mormon Church". I have been saved for 20 years and they all think I am going through a "phase". I have learned that it does not serve to present any sort of truth to them as they think that I am the one who is wrong.
When you love and care about family and friends it is so painful to see them walk the path of deception and know there is nothing you can say to them to open their hearts. Just keep Earl in prayer. Pray that the God sends someone into his life that he will listen to.

Hi jorjean :heythere
I'm soooo glad you're NOT going to be "healed" and return to mormonism!! :yeah
Thanks so much for your story. It is so dis-heartening when nothing you can say or do or prove has any affect on these poor lost souls. They just look at you like you're the deceived one. :ohno They actually feel sorry for US. It's such a mixed-up, backwards world with The Deceiver on the loose.
