..How does that play a part..I'd like ta know...
She grew up in the South. She was from a very religious family - Baptist ... just don't see those Baptist beliefs at work on her show ... I see unquestionable liberalism and humanism at work on her show. Many an article highlights this on Oprah ... .
And of couse we can disagree on this too !

:nodAgreed. Not impossible, just extremely difficult. The rich usually value their wealth above ALL else. With God ALL things are possible.
Mark 10
17 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
19 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.
20 And he answered and said unto him, Master, all these have I observed from my youth.
21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me.
22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.
23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
24 And the disciples were astonished at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!
25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
26 And they were astonished out of measure, saying among themselves, Who then can be saved?
27 And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible.
28 Then Peter began to say unto him, Lo, we have left all, and have followed thee.
29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my sake, and the gospel's,
30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
31 But many that are first shall be last; and the last first.
Job, Jacob, David, Joseph......... they all handled wealth very well because they knew the Lord first, before they got their wealth. I think that's the key. JMHO.:)

Hmmm.. the emphasis is "was From"....Her family.. are they still religious??..Or did they all gradually break-away from the faith just like Ms Winfrey???
She's very much into.."Empowering Oneself" to succeed, especially after being a victim..which can sound good on theory..but sometimes it's over the top...I'll admit all that wealth, and attention has made her "somewhat powerful force in Tv"..She can decide what book to read for her reading club..dag, I wish she'd pick a comic book..or sumthin other than the norm, that she stringently seems to follow...
And of course we can disagree on this too !
..^^^I Only Disagree if the situation presents itself..:heh:heh

You'd have to check with her family on that. I don't keep track of what her family is doing. Oprah is easier since she's in the spotlight.

Christians depend on God for "empowerment".
Christians pray to Christ and He gives us the strength to face a problem or deal with a problem - NOT SELF.
To depend on one self for empowerment, leaves God out. It is God who is in control. This whole business of self empowerment is humanitic; not Christian.
2Cor.12:10
[10] Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.
For a Christian, when we are weak, we are made strong through Christ; NOT SELF. Self teachings are humanistic teachings and not at all Christian.

I agree that self empowerment can be a bad path, lead to dishonesty and stepping on people to get what you want... But it's hard to know where to draw the line sometimes. When is it wise to wait on God, and when is it wise to act out of the talents and abilities God gave us? It's such a fine line sometimes. Waiting mode can almost seem like a sin when you have the ability to do something, but you THINK God might be telling you to wait..... I for one get frustrated with this.

These days I pretty much stick to my own DVDs and I'm buying and watching things like 'A Country Practice', 'I Dream of Jeannie', 'Murder She Wrote', 'Midsommer Murders', Star Trek', various classic British comedies, and 'Agatha Christie's Poirot'. I now watch very little TV - the news, Antiques Roadshow, Kath & Kim, Dancing with the Stars and All Saints. That's about it for the week. Everything else is from my own collection that I know and trust. Most of the stuff that's shown these days just doesn't tend to interest me.

Well True!!
But I'm gon keep my response short, cuz i don't want to get reprimanded..
But Self-Empowering is good!
However like everything else, if it's miss-used or used for selfish reason(without God In the Picture), then it will turn out bad..i.e it may lead to greed, cold & obnoxious to your fellow man...But If you have God in the picture i don't see any problem!:idunno

Smart move!
When you turn your heart over to Christ, you'll be amazed at the empowerment He gives you - just when you need it. "Self empowerment", without God is to be weak.
