I had a gall bladder attack on Sunday night and spent the night in the ER. They have referred me to a surgeon, but didn't seem to think it was serious enough at this point to require surgery. They stressed proper diet, but I don't really know what foods to avoid.
Can someone help me? I sure don't want to go through that again if it can be avoided. If any of you have had gall bladder problems, you know what I'm talking about.
BTW - they prescribed Pepcid and gave me Vicidin for pain.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks and God Bless.

Popcorn, fried foods and nuts. Those are the things I remember setting off my MIL into a bad attack.
You also might have a problem with beef............it is harder to digest.

Fats will set it off.
The thing that set mine off the worst was shellfish. Apparently gall stones are made of cholesterol and shellfish are high in cholesterol. :idunno

They can do laproscopic surgery most times if you wind up having to have it. Usually do it as day surgery. In the mean time, the stuff already mentioned will set it off. Fried foods, spicy foods etc. Unfortunately trial and error.

Hi I'm a nurse in the Uk and have worked on surgical wards and many patients with gallstones. First of all you have my symapthy because i know they can be extremely painful! :ohno
The best thing to do is to avoid any fatty foods. The gallbladder is responsible for making the stuff that emulsifies fats, so it best to give it a rest from doing that while it is full of stones. If the pain doesn't get any better though, go back to the doctor. People don't realise how painful gallstones can be and how it affects your life. I will pray for you. The good thing is if you do need surgery, it is a relatively simple operation with a quick recovery. Some of my patients go home the day after surgery if they have had the keyhole procedure!

Listen to the nurse!!:yeah Great info.
and yes, greasy foods do it.. trust me.. I am gallbladderless.:heh
I had it done years ago day surgery, laparoscopy.. I'll tell ya, it was EASY surgery for me. 'a little zofran (antinausea) in the IV before you wake up. 'went home, took it easy for a few days. The worst of it all was trying not to laugh or cough.
Praying you will feel better soon. (big difference with it OUT! :thumb)

My mother had to have surgery many years ago. Salads with salad dressings were really bad for gallstones. Just thought you'd want to know.

I feel for you.
Never had gallstones, but I've had kidney stones since I was seventeen
or eighteen.
Three surgeries over twenty-six years . . . and I still pass one or two a year.

I'm gallbladderless too. My attack landed me in the hospital in the middle of the night (terrible terrible pain!) They pumped me full of pain killers, operated at 3:00 in the afternoon and I was on my way home at 10 pm. Still, if I would have had the opportunity and the time I would have tried a gallbladder cleanse. You can google it and find more information than you'd ever want. I would've liked to have kept my gallbladder if at all possible. I have no idea what foods trigger an attack. I am a vegan so I know it wasn't fat or meat for me...
