I started a thread about this before we had our own homeschooling forum. I guess it got lost in the move. :scratch:idunno

So, anywho, I am going to post about it again since I am so impressed with this program. :thumb

My ds is in 4th grade and I am suspecting he struggles a bit with some dyslexia. Up until this year we have used the spelling words that came with his Language Arts program. At the most it was 6 words and he would study them all week, take the test on Friday and then promptly forget how to spell any of them. :ohno

I found Sequential Spelling, which was written by a dyslexic man for dyslexic kids. :dance2 His approach is TOTALLY different. In fact, when I got the book in the mail and looked at it I really didn't think it would work but I got prompted by the HS to give it a month. Well, he has done 24 days worth now and I am completely blown away! The boy that could barely spell 6 words a week is now spelling 25 different words a day! Yes, you heard right, 25 different words a day!

His approach is to use root words and word patterns to build on every day.
For instance on day one he starts them with the word 'pin'. Day two it is 'pins'. Day three is 'pinned'. Day four 'pinning' etc.

The way he brings it across the kids can usually correct a word they got wrong themselves and if they can't he scripts for you how to help them with it. They are learning spelling rules automatically.

I prayed so hard for the Lord to help me find a way to tap into his spelling/reading powers and He really delivered with this program. :thumb

BTW The books are not "grade level". Everyone starts with book one and then works their way up.
