Judges in this town are out of control, period. Just recently a judge denied an order of protection for an immigrant woman who has been here legally for many years. He instead spent his time questioning her legal status and informing her that if she were in the US illegally she had zero rights in his court. He then denied her order of protection against her estranged husband. Did I mention she was here legally?

As for the latest failure of justice in Maryville TN, I don't care what church the woman belongs to. The judge was trying to mock her religion, period. Most people would fare no better than the woman did, being expected to defend their beliefs to a mocking judge.

The judge clearly does not believe or know anything about the bible we are asked to swear on in court.

1. This was a Seventh Day Adventist member.
2. The article does not mention the ages of the children but that the children were aggravated and harassed by the mother discussing the "beast" etc. If the children are too young that could scare the mess out of them.
3. Seventh Day Adventist teachings include vegetarianism and other “health” issues so this could've been a factor in the judge questioning her so harshly.

Bottom line we weren't in the courtroom and only have heard part of the story.

IMHO the Seventh Day Adventists are considered a cult. Something to think about.

The founder William Miller said the book of Daniel clearly showed that the world would end in the 1840s. We're still here so he's clearly a false prophet.

They also believe in The Investigative Judgement. Scripture does not say that Jesus entered the Holy of Holies in 1844. Also this teaching says that Jesus is still making atonement in heaven. Contrary to Scripture. They believe in the doctrine of "Soul Sleep" which is contrary to Scripture. Etc. Etc.

So I'm wondering if the husband has left the cult and became a Christian and there's some kind of teaching regarding the vegetarianism and other health issues that might place the children in danger? Also, the age of the children and discussion of the beast and end of the world could be damaging considering the age of the kid and/or the personality of the kid. Could traumatize them.:idunno

What if the father was the same as the mother? Then what? Take the child away from both parents? If it was really THAT bad, the judge WILL take the children from both parents if they both believe the same thing. But they won't. They will just look farther who the children should live with. Do people not see how unfair this is for a judge to base his decision because of the outside surface like religious beliefs or disabilities?for me, it is like I am being punished for marrying the wrong guy. For marrying someone who is hearing, and not marrying a deaf person like me to get a fair treatment in custody court.

The court's one-and-only job in a custody hearing is to protect "the best interest of the child."

Judges are unlikely to view homeschooling as "the best interest of the child", and will be naturally disinclined to allow it. That's not to say that this presumption can't be overcome...but you need to understand going in what the judge's are looking for, and help the judge to understand why you believe that homeschooling is the best interest of your child.

My point being what gives the judge the right to make these assumptions? Big brother has way to much say so in a parents decisions.... I made a very valid arguement -- but i wasn't swaying him and he wasn't swaying me; and it still is NOT up to him or the child for that matter. Praise God i was given a small victory that day - and it is only God i thank for that. I believe we have way too many idiots trying to help us parent our children.. When God didn't say the village; God said it's the parents job to raise them up in the way they should go; along with other christians help.

Thought 7thDA may be a cult (and from what i understand they are) this is not just being done to them; it is being done to alot of christians in the court system. It's the devil's playground and it is getting worse every year. Many parents are being falsely accused and in the family court it is NOT innocent until proven guilty -- it's who has the most money to win a court hearing or who can manipulate the child the most to their side; whether a parent doing the manipulating or a court mediator.. My son at 11 yo. lied and did things he never would have done had it not been for his father and the court mediator manipulating him. And to this day; my oldest is still a VERY confused boy. But God will get him back, i know that for sure!

Oh brothre!

A seventh Day Adventist's religion on trial instead of determining what's best for the kiddies.

“We were discussing specific Scriptures and the details of end-times prophesy,” White said. “My attorney kept protesting, but the judge kept it going for almost an hour.

“At one point, I told the judge, ‘I didn’t write the Bible — so why are we discussing this?’

“He just wouldn’t stop, and I thought I would go to jail if I didn’t respond to his questions — so I went along with it even though I knew they were inappropriate questions.

“We talked about my religion for so long that I wasn’t even allowed to bring my witnesses to the stand.”

Well looks like the ex-husband was successful in making her out to be a kook. The judge played along with it. It should have been about what is best for the children and character witnesses to help the decision - not on this.

Whenever I read stuff like this, it makes me wish I would have went to law school to eventually become a judge. There are so many bad ones out there, or at least it seems that way, we need more good ones. Instead I am a computer programmer, which is a good job too. Oh well, with 3 kids and another on the way, I don't have the finances or time to go back to school.
