My grandpa has that, it's really cool.
It's long range wireless, so a signal (like a cell phone signal) is sent from the company to your house where you have a special modem. It's great because all you have to do is plug it into the wall and your computer. Not to mention its pretty fast.

how would that work with wireless in my house. right now I am on the sofa with the macbook..... I don't want it to be plugged in. would I just have the main unit plugged into my router?
also... how does it work in bad weather???

When we visited my grandpa we plugged a router into his modem and it worked great. The signal received by the modem is very different that that transmitted by your router so they won't interfere with each other. Pretty much, the modem they give you will replace you DSL modem and will work in much the same way only without the phone cord.
I'm not sure how it would work in bad weather but if your close enough to the transmitter it shouldn't effect it. How close is close enough? I'm not sure, I only got to play with it for a few days.
