I'm going to help out with a baby shower for my daughter. Her friends are having it for her in Dec. (I am too excited!!)

Has anyone here made a "diaper cake"??

Any other cute ideas?

My daughter has a polka dot theme going for the baby in her room and lots of

PINK!
:lol2:lol2

Thank you.

Congratulations Sing! How FUN!! I've heard of the diaper cake, but never seen one in person, sorry! Did you google? :idunno

Have you heard of doing a "diaper raffle"? Ask everyone invited to bring a bag of diapers (and they're NOT cheap these days-Wowee) to enter the raffle, then whoever wins gets a prize; set of candles, giftcard, whatever. It's kinda fun. You'll need to either have tickets to give out or make them on the computer.

The baby shower "game" I love the most...is to place baby items on a tray, pass around and let everyone get a looksee, then they need to try to jot every item down from memory. I've done this, and it can get pricey because imagine buying one of each: thermometer, pacifier, spoon, bib, shampoo, bath wash, powder, ointment, q-tips, nose-sucker, nail clipper, washcloth, towel, baby socks, mittens, hat, rattle, teether, wipes, bottle, the possibilities are endless! Maybe one of the other hosts would be willing to purchase all the items as their gift?!

I love making diaper cakes. Let me know and I can email you a pic of one i did with butterflies, etc. I may try to post it on here, will have to play with it. You learn them by experience! They are tough but pretty!

Here is a pic...below are instructions

I used a box of wipes for the bottom layer and a receiving blanket for the top. I bought one medium pack of small diapers (about 55) and roled them up into a bowl so they would form that way. Trial and error here. Pin the ribbon as you go or you will have a mess! For the butterflies I used a baby washcloth cut in half, pins, and wire ribbons. I love making these!

Two more pics. The ones with more detail are at home. I used stickers for the baby's name on the ribbongs, and use fotties for the "center" This was a large one, three layers, it cost me about 60 to make!

the last baby shower i went to i used a longaberger spring basket (one fixed handle) and took a dress and draped the dress over the handle to the back of the basket to make it look like a sun shade for a bassinett, then i took another dress and draped it over the bottom front like it was a blanket. i also stuffed pjs and other baby stuff in the basket under the dress that was teh blanket. (i had to tape the dress that made teh shade to the handle so it would stay).
i wrapped it all in clear cello and then used my cricut machine (die cutter) to cut out lettrs that said 'sweet baby' or something like that...plus i used some baby themed die cuts from the craft store to tape onto the clear cello and especially at the top where the whole thing is cinched together, so they look like they're popping out of the top.

it came out so cute, everyone loved it. and it was a few gifts in one, the basket will last forever (they're expensive...if you can find the same shape you may be able to use a cheaper basket) and can be used in so many ways....then the clothes from new born up to 2t (that was one of the dresses).
i also let my kids use archival pens to write their names on teh bottom of the basket.

i wish i had a picture of this, but i didn't think to take one. if i find one from another source, i'll try to post it.

hope that what i typed made sense. you really have to visualize it...but it was beautiful, really!

Bamagirl!! That is just beautiful!! :thumb

Would you tell me how to do this and one like the one you made?

I did go to Michael's and find some pink polka dot ribbon to go around the front of it. I bought some of those littl plastic rattles, bottles, pink little wired flowers, little baby blocks.. all those decorative kind.. not practical.

I would LOVE to make one that is similar to the one you made!

Thank you!!!!!:hug

scrappergirl.. that is an awesome idea too!!

Ok, get a cardboard cake tray (I like Party City's decorative ones, prefer round)

Put a box of baby wipes in the center, start with rolling the diapers (roll the decoration into the inside of the diaper.) I have found that if you roll a bunch at a time it is easier, and they won't pop out so much. Take the ribbon, use a pin to pin the center of the ribbon to the diaper. Pin every other diaper and pull TIGHT, that's the key. Keep going until you have a nice roll around the wipes that is tight and won't pop. Then, put a rolled up fleece blanket in the middle to stand up straight. Start the process with the diapers again. You can kind of see where you might need to put an etra diaper here or there.

For the top layer, I used the remaining portion of the fleece blanket as my base. Once you get the ribbons and diapers there it is just decorating from there. I put stickers, rattles, etc. her theme was butterfly, this my topper. I usually use the precious moments praying stuffed animals. I added a pack of the samles of johnson & johnson baby stuff. and put all that on top with a ribbon around it. I also put a bottle and two pacifers that I tied with ribbons. Then, I put fotties (butterfly) in the middle of the front. I put the flowers down the side by poking them into the ribbon (no glue used, this cake is usuable)
I rolled half of a washloth and formed my ribbon into wings and put two white pins to hold it together for the eyes and then pinned it to the cake. The back is a dragonfly, which I used a washcloth and wrapped the bottom part over and over with green ribbon.

Let me know if you have any more questions, get creative, have fun, and don't get too frustrated when you have to re-do those diapers over and over again!

This was my favorite one to make :)

Ok here's my favorite baby shower game. prolly not very cute, but funny!!
Buy several kinds of mini candy bars, put them in diapers and melt in microwave for a few seconds-- looks like baby poo!!! :fear Then have the guests try to figure out what kind of candy bars they are. :heh
