I took this from another thread, namely "Slaughterhouse Religion" and thought I'd make up a new thread as it didn't quite pertain to said thread:
Quotes from that thread:
We drove an hour one way today for church in order to avoid all of the above.
The day is coming where you cannot drive anywhere to avoid it.
Personally, I don't attend church for this very reason because this side of the world "new age christianity" has made huge inroads. It is said that both New Zealand and South Africa were/are "testing grounds" for new age beliefs and government, so it goes without saying that what the majority of churches have on offer is pure apostasy at best. Just an example of what one has to "choose" from over here:
Phakalane Christian Center (pronounced Paakaalaanee), meaning "place of the eagle" (Setswana) - prosperity gospel and WOF - they say, "God is a God of prosperity and abundance". They're on local television and one can see the laying on of hands - i.e., impartation of spirits. Once the Lord Jesus Christ has opened your eyes to the Truth, one can easily see the insincerity and lack of power of the pseudo gospel - the preacher's words and sermons are basically empty and very wordly. There's a lot of shallow, non-descript "ear tickling" involved.
ZCC (Zionist Christian Church) - These "guys" don't leave their ancestor worship behind, instead, they incorporate it. They also have a chief prophet (who is stinking rich by the way). They all congregate at a certain point over the easter period to worship. In South Africa it's called "Moriah" or "Zion City". I could be wrong on this one, but they sacrifice animals on altars, just as the African witch-doctors do.

Then there's an assortment of "dead" churches who basically adhere to the social gospel, such as the Methodists, Anglicans, etc.

Then of course, there's the Gay church, which receives it's backing from the Dutch Reformed Church. This church marries gay and lesbian couples, which is totally legal and within the country's constitution and law. They call themselves the "Reformed Church".

(The first half of this thread is in Afrikaans - the latter part is in English)
Of course, there's no winning with the Baptist Church either as they've embraced the "Purpose Driven Life".
With regards to the "Emergent Church" - I have found a link between home-churches and the emergents, with the vast majority of them being Universalists, as well as stating there's no absolute truth - not even in the Bible.
But perhaps there's light at the end of the tunnel - as God's Word tells us, there's a faithful remnant in each nation:

I haven't checked this dude out - but at a glance he looks "kosher".
