I have a 12 year old that is having problems in school. He was in a public school last year and I moved him to a Christian School this year because of all the physical violence against him. This year, in the "christian school" (a famous one I might add), he is being teased mercilessly by most of his classmates: calling him stupid and moron, ostracizing him everywhere including lunch when no one will sit with him, saying hateful things to him like "why are you here"...etc....

I hate to pull him out of school but I am getting really tired of all of this. The problem is that I work fulltime and I am wondering if it would be possible for me to homeschool him. I homeschooled him in 1st grade but I worked parttime. That is not an option now. And, believe me it is not for luxuries that I work.

Do any of you work?

I don't homeschool but there is a couple at our church that does - both parents work - the son is 12 and the daughter is 11. They HS in the evening - both parents trade off on different subjects - the kids do homework, chores and free-time during the parents work day. Seems to work well for them.

Thanks. I know it can be done...just not sure if I want to tackle it. But, something has to change....I do know that.

Is there a way that you can work a bit from home? I have a friend who works, but she is a nurse and gets her hours in on the weekend and some nights.

I work full-time and homeschool. My husband is a stay out home dad though. But he doesn't do any of the school work with the kids, who are 11 and 13. I got home around 5:00, at dinner (hubby has that ready when I get home!) and then work with the kids.

I leave them assignment during the day and at night we review the work. Any questions or problems, science experiments, art class, we do together at night. It's a lot of work for me...but I know that I'm investing in their lives.

I tell my kids their dad is the principal...so they'd better be good while I'm at work!

I just took a job as a clinical care coordinator in a developmentally disabled adult home (63 bed facility)...I work about 7-4 M-F. I have to be there. Hubby is looking for work right now but it takes both of us to work to make it.

That's funny. :pound

I'm going to try to talk to his teachers to see what is going on at school. I don't want to pull him out as I feel that dealing with some issues will make him a better person. But, at the same time, I don't want his entire childhood to be miserable like mine was.

I have a good friend who is a nurse and she HS her 3 daughters and is divorced. It can be done.

We homeschool three children, I only work part-time though.

I am also a nurse, I work 11-7, and try to work mostly on the weekend.

I've noticed in our area WIP programs are coming back (weekend incentive - work 2 12hr shifts on the weekend and get paid for 40 hours. The pay is even higher if you don't need benefits).

In our area that is only offered in the downtown hospitals, about an hour away. For now I will stick to our little community hospital...but it certainly is tempting.

I home school and work part time in the afternoons from home.

It can be done but I'm not gonna lie, it is HARD. It is a burden to have to work especially since I really don't enjoy what I'm doing very much, but we just can't see anyway around it for now. I'm just praying dh will get the raise and promotion he so deserves because it's just too hard doing both. DD and I are also trying to get a baking business off the ground---now that is something I DO enjoy doing.

Hopefully, I can quit this job someday and make money baking for people. Plus, it's really good experience for my dd. I'd really like her to think more like an entrepreneur and not necessarily rely on others for a paycheck.

Blessings to all,
Marty :)

Marty,

Do you have a specialty in baking? We have a Mom in our co-op group that bakes whole grain breads. She sends out an e-mail with 3 selections for the week, and in just a few hours, she sends another e-mail out closing the orders she has such a quick response.

You could even do that within a church e-mail chain if you don't belong to a homescool co-op. Just a thought...
