WASHINGTON (CNN) — Nearly half of Americans feel the U.S. economy is in a recession, marked by a significant decline in economic activity, according to a survey released Thursday.
The poll by the CNN-Opinion Research Corporation found that while 46 percent of Americans hold that belief, 51 percent don't.
Black citizens were more pessimistic than whites, findings show.
Sixty-nine percent of black Americans feel the United States is in a recession, while only 42 percent of white Americans feel the same way.

I wonder if the 46% mainly vote for democrat candidates.:idunno:)

The US is either in a recession, or not. "Recession" is a technical term, meaning a period when there are two consecutive quarters of negative economic growth.
While the economy is slowing, we have not yet had ONE quarter of negative economic growth, much less two in a row. So, at present, the United States is NOT in a recession.
People may feel like the economy is going bad. But that's not the same thing as saying we're in a recession.

All I know is that the prices of gas, food, clothing, etc. is going up and up, but people's paychecks aren't. What's that called? DH works in the car repair business and I can tell you that he's very busy because people are choosing to repair the cars they already own rather than buying new ones. That's usually not a good indicator of how the economy is going. Good for us because he makes more money, but not good for most other people.

Exactly! The media misrepresents the current state of the economy to the public. A person may be falling on hard times with his or her own finances but that does not mean the overall economy is good or bad which makes the poll silly and irrelevant.:)

Inflataion.
Thank you for explaining that. Doesn't make the state of the economy any better, but it makes me smarter than I was when I woke up this morning. :hehee

Even when asked half the people have not fallen on hard times. So, one need ask, where are they getting that bad information? How could they draw that conclusion? :scratch
Since Befferoni watches such things, could you please tell everyone how many straight months of growth we have had, and when has that been matched, historically?
Thanks, I am sure you know the answer.
P.S. :heythere Ooooooo, I know the answer too!!!! but it will look better when you post it. :nod

So, let me open a can of worms and ask people what they think causes inflation?
