It's drizzlin' in Atlanta. Supposed to last all week, that'd be great if it does!

I have Cobb EMC so I hope they burn coal instead of using steam! :lol2

But, stocking up on water and apparently maybe a generator isn't a bad idea at all now.

Those coal fired boilers produce steam to turn the turbine generators.:shocked They also use large quanities of water to produce the steam.:ohno

I think they (the government) waited this late to declare an emergency so they can force their other options for water for Atlanta on the people of Georgia. They have been wanting to tap into other rivers for water, ie the Savannah River. This has been opposed by enviormentalists and residents of that watershed. Now Atlanta and Perdue will be forced into mandating alternate sources of water for Atlanta.

I think we will see the construction of more resovoirs in North Georgia along with a pipeline being built to pump water from the Savannah river. They have also proposed piping ocean water and desalinating it. That would be an endless source, although expensive.

I live in Southeast Georgia and we have some drought, but not as bad as Northern Georgia. My grass is very green and we are getting enough rain to keep it that way. But the river is drying up, we are about 10" short on rainfall and North Georgia is over 16" short.

By not getting a tropical storm of significance or hurricane we have not been able to make up the defecit of rain.
