The New York Stock Exchange is open for business on week days between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
But there are exchanges around the world open around the clock. And they all sort of feed on one another.
The NY traders are looking to see what the Asian stock markets did overnight, or to see how the London Stock Exchange is performing. If Asia is way up or way down, that can be a predicter of how the day in NY will go, and vice versa.
Because our economy is so interconnected with the economies around the world, something in Asia can effect what happens here.

:panic
lots of jittery traders, speculating about our futures, all with currency loaned to the odds-on favorite companies or money-makers' schemes. All in hopes of striking it rich with the 'big one.' Sure, sometimes I think what my life would be like today if I had bought Google stock when it first opened.....the money has increased by a factor of 600% and more in just a few short years. Gold could have been purchased by many when it was sleeping in the $300 oz. slot. Today, a very quick turn-around to $750/oz.
That is all these stock markets exist for: to make a person enormously wealthy! :preach
:mazy
I'll repeat: :mazy
...meanwhile, back in the US, as mortals sleep the sleep of unrest.......Foreign market traders tank the economic ship.........:candle Babylon's final fall will be great indeed.
oh, sorry; stumbled onto this forum. I usually hang out in the ETE forum. :wave
Economics to me are one big jumble of weaponry waiting to explode. None of this 'market or economic' culture will happen when our Lord and Savior rules. We are going to be conducting 'stock' trading in a whole new Light, I believe.
