Hello everyone :)

I see a lot of you on this site are very knowledgeable about the emergent church movement. I am in the process of trying to find a good church to attend where I live. I've been to several that are in various stages of "emerging' and I was very dissapointed. In my online research of emerging churches I've come across the Willow Creek Association often.
One church I've considered going to where I live is one of those mega churches but the minister is a Messanic Jew and his sermons are very good.. I've listened to them online, but at the same time, he has guest ministers and their sermons kind of fall into that social gospel area. When I go to the Willow Creek site and search for churches.. this mega church I mentioned is on their list. I am confused because this particular minister of this church has gotten good recommendations.

I was just wondering what you all think about Willow Creek. I am leary of them because it seems as if they are advocating that emergent movement. When I visit other church websites in my area on their list.. I see that in their beliefs statement.. things are lacking, especially attonement.

So, I want to know what your expert opinion is of Willow Creek and should I disregard this mega church?

BTW the best church I've attended so far was a small Calvary Chapel out in the country. It was the best so far. I only found out about Calvary Chapel by online research plus I emailed Roger Oakland, who spoke highly of Calvary and asked him about it and he said most of the Calvary churches he knows of are not apostolic.

But really want to know your opinion and advice on Willow Creek.

Kudos to Sing as I also agree....

Even the messianic movement is being tainted these days, the weeds are everywhere......

Stick with Calvary Chapel. :)

I will :)

It just confuses me how a pastor who has such rave reviews and from listening to his sermons, sounds like hes right on the non-apostolic track..

...............YET.. his church is listed on the Willow Creek registrey:scratch.. and a lot of know where that organization stands.

The Willow Creek church is the grandfather of seeker sensitive church movement and they are the first to popularize that "we must engage the world by modifying our ways to plant the seeds of the gospel". In theological jargon, this is called contextualization and it has the origin within Neo-evangelicalism (which is grouped with the likes of Christianity Today and Billy Graham).

The Emerging and Emergent Church is just carrying out this stance to the next step forward into relativist mindsets.
