My first book, The Discipline of Spiritual Discernment, will be published by Crossway in January of 2008. The book looks to the Bible to seek what God teaches on the subject of spiritual discernment, a term I define as the skill of understanding and applying God's Word with the purpose of separating truth from error and right from wrong. Written for the general reader and in a way that is suitable for a wide audience, the book teaches people to think biblically so they might act biblically. It appeals for discernment, teaching the importance of this discipline in guarding the good news God has entrusted to us.

Endorsements:
From the Foreword:
"Tim Challies is uniquely qualified to write on the subject. I don’t know of a more reliable or more prolific commentator on the contemporary evangelical scene. His weblog is a favorite stop for thousands of Christian readers every day. His book reviews and his comments on evangelical trends are consistently even-handed, thorough yet succinct, and full of perceptive insights… The Discipline of Spiritual Discernment is a truly important work—one that should be required reading not only for church leaders, but for all sober-minded laypeople as well."

Dr. John MacArthur
Pastor-Teacher, Grace Community Church, Sun Valley, CA

"Tim Challies is one of the finest young evangelical thinkers of our day. He combines keen insight with theological maturity and spiritual depth. His weblog is required reading, and The Discipline of Spiritual Discernment should help form the Christian character of a new generation of evangelicals. Indeed, we must hope so."

R. Albert Mohler, Jr.
President, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY

But can you "trust" this given it's endorsed by MacArthur who according to post #5 of this thread (http://rr-bb.com/showthread.php?t=19182) may a fallen for heresy?

She stated in the post that he is "friends" with Dobson. That does not make one agree with his "psychology"

Do you have friends that adhere to different doctrines than you do?
I do not see his "fellowshipping" with Dobson.

Hope that answers your question.

MacArthur is as solid as any preacher in this country today.. probably the best.

This excerpt from the sermon addresses the controversy that exists between the ministry of Dr. John MacArthur and that of Dr. James Dobson (Focus on the Family),
on the issue of preaching the gospel to change the wickedness of man versus using political legislation to accomplish that end.

MacArthur is as solid as any preacher in this country today.. probably the best.Given some of the responses in the other thread you would think that was the case, the "concern" was that MacArthur had fallen into the emergent group because he called Dobson his friend.

I have students who are of different faiths than mine, yet I teach at a Christian school and have the freedom to share the gospel, but I don't have to allow them to try to convert others to their faith.

I fellowship with Arminians, Calvinists, and many in between. I "fellowship" here! I read Reformed, Puritan, Anglican, Baptist, and other authors many of whom I don't fully agree with theologically (MacArthur, Piper, Packer, Chafer, Grudem, and others).

MacArthur has written an incredible book against deceptions and the Emergent Church.
It's called:

The Truth War: Fighting for Certainty in an Age of Deception
