Hi all!:heythere

I just thought I would share some of our homeschooling ideas with you as we have had some wonderful days in our new endeavor as this is our first year homeschooling.

We contribute our daily chores and making of meals to our class of HomeEconomics and with the cooking they receive credit for reading (recipes are so in depth) and mathematics (measuring ingredients) that it's actually a plus.

For our Art class and Science we combined them as our weather here in Indy has changed drastically..it's cold at night brrr.... We have started to observe weather patterns and actually compared what we see to what the weather is forecasted that particular day to. We also are making a fall collage----we are gathering leaves since the colors are so beautiful (God's own artwork there) and other items Acorns, Pine Cones etc,. and we are going to put them all together in a wreath-like way and put different photos of the kids in them, then we are going to give one we make to my parents as a present....Just kinda neat to take nature in as a Science class and make Art from it at the same time.

For our Math we do our daily worksheets plus they have had their moments so they have had some free time in their room to think about those moments and fulfill the required time in their room while I take my time out to remember that it's better to HS and not give up as they were in PS a long time before we had to pull em out due to the immorality so I end up getting a counting lesson in Math some days too.................

For our history we focus all our work, reading, voacbulary words, spelling, writing, and research into the current holiday. This week-end however, we are transitioning from Halloween to Thanksgiving and our going to be learning how the tradition started from before the Pilgrims to now. Plus we will get lots of HomeEc and Math with all the baking it will entail as well as Bible because you also give thanks and that plays a part in religion too. Then in Dec. we will transition into Christmas and do the same.

I didn't know if anyone else had thought of these ideas, plus we are taking our children to the Zoo and our Childrens Museum has several programs coming up that are perfect for Homeschoolers so we will be attending those as well.

I know it's hard to hs, but we do see the results in how they are learning better and quicker because we are actually taking the time to learn together as a family and not just in books. We are learning together and about each other every day something you just can't get in a PS.

My children have not adjusted to HS as easily as I had hoped but each day it's getting better and better....we seem to be settling into our own routine of what's expected and how fast we go and when to take breaks and when to even have a FREE DAY. Plus they have even gotten closer to us if that makes any sense. It's just awesome how God brings you learning experiences everyday and how once you start it encompasses everything in your life.

Plus it helps that we read this site and a lot of other sites for homeschoolers and we have so much support. I wish I could give you all a bunch of links and other cool ideas to help but this the best I can do right now. I hope you don't think what we are doing is dumb or not enough, I just thought it'd be kinda nice to share.

God Bless you all and :hug

I wish we had a fall so we could do fall things.

Oh how I envy you though, you have the wonderful beaches where you can do all kinds of stuff on the ocean and the beach, plus you have a vast array of seashells at your disposal to find, plus hermit crabs and then all the marine life you are surrounded with.

Consider yourself blessed. We won't get to go the beach until next year and that is with us saving a better part of our tax return, but you get to live there full time. You're already there!

I think you are so lucky...however, you can still do fall type things. The weather there may not show fall, but there is still a sense of it in the air, if you know what I mean. Animals tend to act differently than humans with changing of seasons so you may plan an animal study for the animals that habitat in your area and see if you notice a change and document it, kind of like a nature study for science.

Learn about the fall traditions of your state and take part in them with the kids and learn how they are different and affected by the traditions of other states. Learn about the upcoming Holidays and think about what you have in common now with the pilgrims, and do a research project showing how traditions have changed, or what your family is thankful for including how you don't have to worry about snow blizzards and drastically cold weather.

Just some ideas.

Take care.
