The General Director of the Babylon Municapility Department announced that roughly $5.6 million has been specified by the Ministry of General Works to rehabilitate Hilla, Mosayab and al-Qasim districts in Babylon, Iraq Directory reported.

He further pointed out that an approximate $4.1 million has been specified to renovate the northern area of Babylon including the complementary budget for the current year.

Because of security threats and a seemingly immovable bureaucracy, the federal ministries in Baghdad largely failed to spend billions of dollars of Iraqi oil revenues set aside last year to rebuild things like roads, schools, hospitals and power plants.

Although some ministries have improved slightly, what has really caught the eye of Iraqi politicians is the way some local governments have begun bypassing the morass in Baghdad by using hundreds of millions of dollars of the reconstruction money from the government to finance regional projects.

The approach has found such favor among some political leaders that Iraq's deputy prime minister, Barham Salih, arrived here with an all-star cast of senior government officials Sunday to announce that Babil Province, whose capital is Hilla, would be rewarded with $70 million in new money and financing for a major loan program for small businesses and individuals.

Iraq's BCED organizes agricultural development conference

A spokesperson for the Babylon Center for Economic Development (BCED) announced that the center has recently organized and facilitated an agricultural development conference, Portal Iraq reported.

He went on to add that the conferences consisted of a total of fifty government representatives which included private sector businesses and non-governmental organizations, community agricultural unions and agricultural associations.

Non the less, this stuff is fascinating. Clealry, Babylon is being rebuilt. We are getting closer and closer.

I think I am going to start a scrapbook, with bible prophecy on one side, and the fullfilment of it with news articals on the other page. Ya know, like side by side comparrison. :shocked

UNESCO World Heritage Centre - 3rd ah hoc meeting of experts on Babylon

Following the request of Iraq's Ministry of Culture, a working group for the archaeological site of Babylon was created in June 2005. Its aim is to study the damage caused by the installation of a military base on this exceptional site in April 2003.

This third meeting of experts will address the progress achieved following the previous session held in Berlin in December 2005. This falls within the framework of the preparation of an evaluation report by the Iraqi State Board of Heritage and Antiquities as well as by other international institutions.

The conclusions of this ad hoc group of experts on Babylon, will be presented to the International Co-ordination Committee for the Safeguarding of the Cultural Heritage of Iraq.

West to protect Iraqi heritage

"We must save the cultural heritage of Iraq while it is still time," said UNESCO deputy director general Francoise Riviere.

She said it was necessary to relaunch a campaign to stop the trafficking of stolen Iraqi treasures, as required under UN Resolution 1483 adopted in May 2003.

The committee said Iraqi and U.S. forces had a special responsibility to protect culturally important sites, especially ancient Babylon, south of Baghdad, and Ur in the southeast of the country.

"Peace for all believers," the congregation at the Sacred Heart church in Eastern Baghdad sings, as the Patriarch, Emmanuel III Delly, holds a heavy cross in his hands, his eyes closed.

He seems focused on the hard work that lies ahead.

Pope Benedict XVI recently appointed the Patriarch of the Chaldean Church for Babylon, an ancient denomination with roots in the age of Jesus Christ, a cardinal.

Emmanuel III is the first Iraqi to be elevated to that status and will receive his ordination on November 24 in Rome.

That means somewhere down the line, Emmanuel III could become Pope.

Iraqi Forces to take over Babel security

Iraqi Forces will take over security responsibility of Babel Province from US Forces on December 17 and 18, governmental officials and police sources said. Therefore, Babel would be the ninth province in Iraq and the sixth in the south where security command is back to Iraqi Forces.
