When I First Learned
When I first learned that Mom was gone, I cried, sometimes I cursed!
The days were long and sorrow filled, the nights were even worse!
I took a walk, stopped by a church, sat down to take a rest.
And then I cried, and closed my eyes, quite strange what happened next!
The preacher said, why look so sad, for she has just gone home?
I said that’s fine, for you to say, but I‘m here left alone!
He said you know because she’s saved, that she is heaven bound!
That didn’t seem to help me now, I looked at him and frowned!
He said in grief, my strong belief, had left me on this day!
But he would help me get it back, if I would only stay!
I said there’s nothing you can do, I’ve heard it all before.
Just listen close, he said concerned, Sit down and close the door!
I’m sure you know, God did not plan, for man to live this way!
With pain, with strife, with sorrow, no he has a better way!
He sent his son, as you well know, to die for all our sins.
When you accept him as your savior, your new life begins!
This new life has, one problem though, were stuck here till we die.
In this old world with all the pain, I guess you wonder why?
The reason is, so that we, can tell to all who’ll hear.
The path that leads to heaven, so that we can see them there!
But we’re not meant, to love this world, there isn’t much to love.
For our true home is heaven, with our savior up above!
So yes it’s true, your Mothers gone, she got there before you.
But when your tour, on earth is done, you’ll be there with her too!
I hope this will, console you son, to know you’ve but to wait.
Until you see the one you’ve lost, on some future date!
I told him that I understood, and thanked him from my heart!
I hadn’t talked much, about God, I told him I would start!
