When it's on Oprah as an alternative lifestyle to traditional marriage maybe?
I don't watch Oprah but it was on and caught my eye when I saw this guy with 3 "wives". All well dressed and very articulate and talking about the virtues of their "family" and how it's a matter of "choice". Funny to me how you can take a word that sounds so noble like...CHOICE... and use it in such a way to paint a positive, very acceptable notion of a practice that goes against Biblical teaching. They went on to say that raising children in that type of arrangement is so beneficial because they believe raising a child is "sacred" and they teach them "choice" also.

Sin is sold as virtue and people seem so ready to accept it. After all, who could be against "choice"?:readbible

It'll be interesting (and sad) when they realize that, in the end, they made the wrong choice.

Something that many forget is that a "choice" is followed by consequence (good or bad).

I think you have nailed it. We don't seem to believe there are consequences to our choices. After all, on TV everything seems to be so simple and easily cleaned up so quickly. And there's always this cool background music too. Wonder where that is in the real world?:idunno

Having three wives isn't against biblical teaching unless you're going to be a deacon or preacher. That being said, I don't see why you'd *want* three wives, as one is more trouble than it's worth really.

Having three wives isn't against biblical teaching unless you're going to be a deacon or preacher. Perhaps not, but it is illegal.

Perhaps not, but it is illegal.
If same sex marriage becomes legal, what right do we have to deny people who want to marry 3 women, or someone who wants to marry a sheep? None.

The reason we have Biblical standards for life is not to prevent us from doing what we really want to do, it's to protect us from undesirable consequences. The secular world sees these standards as a roadblock to their freedom. We see the standards as protection. Just look at the results of trends that took deep root in the 60s and tell me that God's standards aren't better for a society.

Exactly!

Hmmm ... but I wonder ... does ANYONE think there are consequences for their actions anymore? :idunno

I am not in favor of polygamy, but I do find it strange that a man can marry another man or a woman can marry a woman in some states, yet having more than one wife can land you in jail. :scratch

Yes, it is...

Matthew 19:4"Haven't you read," he replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and female, 5and said, 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh'? 6So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." 7"Why then," they asked, "did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?" 8Jesus replied, "Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard. But it was not this way from the beginning. 9I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery."

Jesus is speaking of a man and a woman...two people becoming one in marriage.

I Corinthians 7:2 But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband. 3The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. 4The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife.

Again...wife, not wives.

Everything is going to hell in a handbasket. The TV is going to become the propaganda machine to feed the nations moreso than ever before.

And you know, its already been going on. Oprah will tout anything that feels good or gives her the "compassionate edge" when it comes to money and image.

If you wanna go with the flow, just hook up with Oprah.
