I thought maybe some men might know too....my dad was the best cook I ever knew!.....so I am posting this in the men's room too...thanks!

Does anyone know of a good homemade french frie recipe....the kind where you heat the oil on the stove and make it that way....
This is how I did it last time.....
I heated some oil on the stove and I first boiled the fries for about 5 min...then I patted them dry...I waited for the oil to heat up and then I put them in there for 15 min.... they turned out good....but couldn't I just soak them in water in the fridge for a while instead of boiling them in water?
Thank you so much!!...
I don't want to get yelled at for making bad fries....I already got yelled at for my husbands lunch today...

My dad makes great french fries. He soaks the cut-up potatoes in water with sugar and some ice in the water for about a half-hour before he fries them. (I'm sure you could leave the sugar out of the mix, if you wanted. I think it is for taste, not to help them fry up better).

Not sure on the fries, but if you husband is yelling about lunch their is an easy fix: tell him to make it himself :D

If he is that lazy he deserves to starve:aha There is no reason to yell at someone over a minor thing like that.:ohno

Reminds me of a little story. A couple of years ago when I was unemployed and my wife was working I made here lunch for her every morning. One morning I included a fruit cup, but forgot to include a fork. She sat down to lunch with her co-workers and and noticed what I forgot and complained to the others. The other ladies in the lunch room looked at her with dropped jaws and open mouths, they were all like "he made your lunch!!!!???" "We can't get ours to pick up his socks let alone make our lunches."

Any way for a Fry recipie. I haven't made fries in ages, but the last time I did I just cut them up and popped them in the hot grease. All I can suggest is to try experimenting with different recipies and see what you like. Sometimes I'll get a taste for something in my mouth and then start throwing things together make it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

The problem is that you just cannot get the oil hot enough at home without a professional level fryer. But ice cold or even frozen potato slices, fries, etc. usually fry the best at home.
