Our family just makes ours like a scrapbook. I don't do the folders, but we do the activities and put them on a piece of 8.5x11 piece of cardstock and put it in a binder

thanks, I appreciate it. That is one of the best "helps" I've found so far.
What sorts of activities do you do in yours?
Im thinking along the lines of Maps, wordsearches, pictures to paste etc.

We do a timeline. This is really good and helps the kids place things.. Kinda like fitting the pieces to a puzzle. I also print out color sheets, fact sheets, or I have them draw a picture and write something up on the topic. Sheets where they have to label the items.
Browse that site. It has loads of info. They are big into digital stuff, but I love the hands on. I think for the younger grades they need more hands on. For the older grades (jr high and high school) the digital would be ok.

so how do you keep the full sized color sheets and such in the folder? From what I see you need smaller items to fit into it.
we've started one today, and just did the cover. Our next couple weeks will be on the various continents out there. So today we talked about explorers and that we'll be exploring the different parts of the world.
The cover then has pictures of a compass, binoculars, map etc.
how do I get all the info into the folder after 2 weeks of overviews of the world continents?

that is why we do notebooking. I can put all the stuff in a binder. Generally with lapbooking you use smaller items.
