I often quote Moses' (actually God's) warnings on magic, witchcraft, etc in the Old Testament. But what I find shameful, sad, and pitiful is that Christians want these things so bad that they'll find a silver lining or Christianized way to supposedly be able to stay in them. Take Halloween and Christmas for example.

I agree about Halloween, but you see, everyday on the Calendar is some kind of pagan celebration, so why not celebrate Christmas for what it's supposed to be, instead of remembering it's pagan roots so much, you think it's still the same thing?:faint

Well, I'm enthusiastic about Jesus'es birthday too. But that's not the greatest day in history, that's the second best. The greatest day in history is when Jesus rose from the grave.

The day that Jesus rose from the grave is my favorite holy day. The day that Jesus was born is my favorite holiday.

I love celebrating Christ's birthday but the paganism/catholicism that it is attached to is very disheartening. Plus we have no such command to celebrate it. Plus it's likely the celebration would be a couple of months or so earlier; if I've read and understood some of the better studies on what time of year Christ was actually born.

One thing I love about Christmas is the traditional music; especially the incredible doctrine found if all verses of these great songs are sang in their entirety.

And I do agree that our most important day of the year is the sobering and yet joyful resurrection of Christ; his death/burial is a very, very close 2nd and really goes with it for the overall 3 days of the most tremendous event this world will ever see.

our seasonal holiday threads come and go every year, they divide the group into 2 factions, those who love holidays and those who despise them, so to keep the peace, we keep these discussions closed, all opinions are recognized and understood

BIBLE MEDITATION:Exodus 20:8 - “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.”

DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT:

Is it okay to watch television on Sunday? Is it okay to go to a ball game on Sunday? Is it okay to eat out on Sunday? Is it okay to read the newspaper on Sunday? Can I play softball on Sunday? Can I go out on a boat on Sunday? Can I go to the grocery store if we’re out of milk on Sunday? Good questions. I hear them all the time, but do you know what’s wrong with these questions? You’re asking the wrong man. It’s not my day — it’s the Lord’s day. Ask Him.

ACTION POINT:

Ask God, “How can I honor You on the Lord’s Day so that at the end of the day I can know that it was indeed Your day?”

I've heard two sides of this matter. Is the requirement for observation of a holy day putting us back under the law? There are verses in the New Testament that seem to bear on this thing including,

Matthew 12:12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.

Mark: 2:24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the
sabbath day that which is not lawful?

2:25 And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did, when
he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him?

2:26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the
high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat
but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?

2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not
man for the sabbath:

2:28 Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

COLOSSIANS: 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.

The gospels have many references to the sabbeth day.

Do we need to ask the Lord or has he already told us? What are we to believe or whom?

On the other hand, taking a day of rest is Biblical. Everyone needs a down day. God took a day of rest when He created the Universe. But, is observing a day of rest as the Jewish people do, when they cannot even travel during their sabbeth, a thing that Christians should emulate?

Not trying to be arguementive...but the sabbath is not Sunday. The Sabbath is from sundown on Friday to sundown on Sat.

As Christians...we typically use Sunday as the day of meeting together....and rest, but the Sabbath is Sat(the 7th day of the week), not Sunday(the first day of the week).

Many people will say that the Sabbath changed for Christians. True...we meet usually on Sunday...but God did not set this as so...men did.

I agree. And all ceremonial/Sabbath/Feasts/Dietary laws were abolished in Christ. Eph. 2:11-18.

I think this topic may cause some division. Watch out! :fear :lol2
