I love Christmas. It's my favorite holiday. I love to celebrate our Lord coming into this world to save us. I love Christmas trees. I love the ornaments and the tree skirts.
Recently I've been reading some websites which state that celebrating Christmas is pagan and demonic, and that Christ wasn't even born around December 25. I'd hate to give up my decorations, but I'd do it to please God.
So, do you celebrate Christmas or not?

I do believe that Christmas has pagan origins. There is bible scripture that talks about pagans going into the wilderness to get trees and decorating them with silver and gold. Jeremiah 10:3-5 Other holidays have pagan origins or were blended with pagan customs or symbols. Valentine's Day was renamed by the early roman church from a pagan feast celebration during the month of February. They had this feast to celebrate one of their Gods. During this time, they would place young womens names in boxes and young men would draw them out. This is how the origin of giving out valentines started. The Easter bunny is a pagan symbol. I found this out by doing a little research on the origin of certain holiday and the origin of the symbols used.

Yes, I knew this but I'm wondering if it means I shouldn't celebrate the holiday with all it's accoutrements. What do you do?

We celebrate as well by buying a tree, putting up lights, buying presents etc. We usually drive around the neighborhood numerous times throughout the season looking at the lights. I love the TV specials too. Can't get enough of Rudolph! I especially enjoy the excitement that little kids have. We also keep it in perspective as well. I iterate to our young son what Christmas is really all about. We discuss the birth of Christ and read the Christmas story from Luke. Oh, and I love the Christmas songs.

Me too, Betty!! One year, I even got DH to put up the Christmas lights just before Halloween.... just my little "protest" against Halloween :heh All the kids coming to the door that night thought it was cool! :thumb
I work in a Christian book/gift store and we've already started putting out the Christmas stuff - the customers are loving it, believe it or not!

Okay but my question is this.... Christmas has pagan origins, is stated nowhere in the bible and there's even scripture against Christmas trees.... WHY are we still celebrating it? The Bible says my people perish for lack of knowledge... we have the knowledge, so are we just going to ignore it because we love Christmas and what goes along with it?:scratch

I love Christmas for the true meaning of celebrating the birth of Jesus. I love the decorations with lights, manger scene, Christmas tree, icicle lights outside, 12 candy canes, 2 candles that light up outside. On our server which folds out we put the manger scene, ceramic Christmas tree, carolers & a gas light that has a flicker bulb. We really decorate around here. We have our lights on Thanksgiving night. It is a beautiful time of year especially when Jesus is 1st place above all the commercialism of buying gifts & spending money. We do not participate in Halloween. :hug

BTW, I normally do celebrate it, but this is my first Christmas as a born again believer. So I don't know what I'm going to do yet. I guess I'm going to research this some more.:thinking

Princess.... just because the Pagans celebrate something akin to Christmas, is no reason not to celebrate the birth of my Savior, in the way I want - even if that means putting up a tree, exchanging gifts and singing Christmas Carols. The Bible says not to judge another on what he eats or drinks or what festivites they celebrate (Colossians 2:16 16Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.) If celebrating Christmas is a problem for you because you equate it with pagan practises, then by all means, don't do it. But do not judge another if they celebrate the Lord's birth in freedom. :hat
