Doesn't feel right to me to have Easter eggs at church.
Would like to hear others opinions and are they doing it at your church?

We are having a Easter Egg hunt this Friday at my church. It does not bother me at all.
The children are taught that eggs, bunnies, baskets, etc. have nothing to do with the resurrection at all. The Word of God is taught and preached every Sunday and we are very careful in teaching how precious the Word and the things of God are to His children.
The egg hunt, hot dog lunch, and such is for fun.........nothing more.
In saying the above, I do respect your opinion and commend your concern in respect to this.
God bless you.:wave

I do like to hear others thoughts on this. Maybe I am too bothered by this? :idunno
A church near my house had santa clause visit for the kids. Again, that felt wrong to me.

My sister I think you are right to question these things. I would be against the egg hunt if it was on Resurrection Sunday. I would be against the hunt if the gospel was not preached and explained.
I applaud you for being vigilant toward the things of God.:hat
God bless you.:wave

Just seems to me that church should be reserved for the worship of God as it is his house. :hat
Not sure how I feel about egg hunting on Friday...... Something to :thinking about :wave The hot dog lunch sure sounds good.

My sister's church (VERY conservative) is having one on Saturday, I think. I don't see a problem with one...maybe if it WERE on Easter Sunday I wouldn't think it's a great idea.... If the kids already know, or (if there are unchurched kids in attendance) if there's a lesson before hand about what Easter really is, and what it means to us, I don't feel that there's a problem. Others might, and I understand that...I think in some manner, it might go back to the whole Romans 14:13 (and verses like it) issue.

I certainly respect your views but I view some things differently. To me, as I understand scripture, I am the church. My other brothers and sisters in the Lord, are the church. The building we meet at is just a building, until we gather there to worship and praise His name and study and learn the Word.
I understand not everyone thinks this way and that's fine. I am no one special and when I speak I realize and fully admit I can be wrong about something. I pray and ask you to pray with and for me if I am wrong for our Lord to correct me. I will humbly receive any correction from our dear Savior and Lord.
God bless you my sister.:wave

Since the subject has been brought up...
Does anyone know where the whole Easter egg hunting thing originated? Or the "Easter = eggs" thing, in general???
I've wondered about that.
Recently, I watched just a few minutes of a video that showed how many of "our" holidays and their symbols had pagan origins...I never got to Easter, though...Christmas was painful enough. *sigh*
But, from the few minutes I saw, I came away with the impression I need to ask myself more questions like, "where did that originate?" before I just jump on a bandwagon!
So...does anyone know???

I believe Chuck Smith from Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa has preached on that.
I tried Wikipedia but the info was kind of vague.
I feel that easter eggs are a distraction from the Easter miracle and santa claus is a distraction from the birth of Jesus. A deliberate distraction.

You are right, the people are the church and the building is just that, a building.
I just feel a conviction about easter eggs and santa claus. :hug
