Shades of Buffy the Vampire Slayer!! On that show all the supernatural beasties stayed home on Halloween, callling it "Amateur Night." Maybe Josh Weldon should sue the witches for copyright infringement.

I would love to send out tracts with candy (and I will) but unfortunately my husband is going to have his grim reaper in the yard...as he does every Halloween. Isn't this going to look strange? Getting Christian tracts from a house that has the grim reaper?

On the other hand it represents death, what better way to make people think of their eternity then seeing the grim reaper? Hmmmm.....

Our family has decided to skip Halloween this year-and all years after. We have decided that we don't want to celebrate the spirit of Halloween. It's not what we're about, as Christians...

In past years, our boys have dressed up as "fun" things...This year, however, it's been on my heart not to do it at all.

1. My oldest son is very allergic to milk (and thus chocolate)-so he can't have 90% of the candy that is handed out.

2. Do we really want our kids to have all that candy to begin with? It's not good for their bodies. Also, this is a good way to avoid the "candy sneaking" that happens after Halloween.

3. We don't live in a subdivision, so we have to drive around to friends and family (that's quite a few miles to travel).

4. All year round we teach our kids not to ask people for things...and especially don't take candy from strangers (or anything, for that matter). Then, one night a year, we tell them it's the designated night to ask everyone you can find for candy!

5. I am not sure that I even trust the candy that IS given out...which is why we only go to family/friends houses.

6. Every year, Halloween gets more EVIL. The costumes are worse, celebrating death and violence. It doesn't seem RIGHT.

7. Most importantly, the spirit of Halloween is in direct conflict with our inner spirit-the Holy Spirit. I don't think He would approve.

I'm not trying to tell someone else what to do. I'm also not looking for affirmation. We will not celebrate this "holiday" no matter what others think. But I wanted to share what was on my heart.

We have yet to talk to the kids. Not looking forward to THAT one.:devil

In don't "celebrate" Halloween, but I do enjoy taking the kids trick or treating (my son's now too old...just my daughter now). No one will fault you if that's what you feel led to do though. :)

You might want to check with your Church or a neighborhood Church if they have an alternative program going on. I cant vouch for all of them but some make an effort to make a parking lot carnival that is Christ centered and also meant for community outreach since you have so many kids wandering around the neighborhood. Usually they allow dressing up, but not as demonic being/Occult sort of stuff if you attend, they urge more like cowboys or bible characters. The unsaved neighborhood kids dressed up as witches and stuff show up but the outreach part is for them of course.
