I don't think i'm being superstitious; :scratch b/c of our families conviction. I certainly wouldn't try and impose my conviction on someone else... Each family has their own feelings about it and i don't condemn that. As far as Christmas goes; i also respect those that choose not to celebrate it for their own reasons. We have chosen to continue that holiday but have done away with the Santa Claus and only focus on Jesus... We have also gotten into discussions abou the gifts we receive as ultimately being from Jesus who gives us everything we have. My youngest son brought up a good point last year: why do we get presents on Jesus' birthday.. From the mouths of babes... Gotta love that.
My youngest loves to dress up in superhero costumes and we let him; but i still hold to our original conviction we do our own thing on halloween night.
As far as candy goes; i love the idea of fruit snacks instead of candy...:thumb The candy is SO bad for the kids' and my kids' have been having alot of stomach aches lately from to much of it; time to get back into our healthy alternatives -- :)

You might want to check with your Church or a neighborhood Church if they have an alternative program going on. I cant vouch for all of them but some make an effort to make a parking lot carnival that is Christ centered and also meant for community outreach since you have so many kids wandering around the neighborhood. Usually they allow dressing up, but not as demonic being/Occult sort of stuff if you attend, they urge more like cowboys or bible characters. The unsaved neighborhood kids dressed up as witches and stuff show up but the outreach part is for them of course.
Due to weather conditions last year, we took our kids bowling on Halloween night. I still let them dress up because kids love to do that. They had a great time and didn't miss trick-or-treating at all.

When thinking about this I can't help but think about Pauls writings concerning eating meat sacrificed to idols, and how all things are lawful. eh but I usually keep that in actual context as in just regarding food and eating sacrifices to idols which food is something created by God for good. Out of context seems to imply that a Christian can just do anything they want and not reap any repercussions.
As far as I can determine, Halloween was not created by God, it really has nothing good in it at all, other than what the Christian can take into the situation such as an opportunity to share the gospel in some way to those that are actually practicing the Pagan calibration.
As for halloween, candy is not from a sacrificial act, it is actually a shakedown payment. What "Trick or Treat" means is that if a treat isn't given, the kids/adults would pull a trick such as dumping garbage all over the front porch. imo, Halloween is the darkest night of the year by far, I can either shine my light and help provide an alternative and/or outreach, or I can sit in front of my computer and work like I did for the past two Halloweens, but I just cant directly participate. Ultimately, I am a flat out non-participant of halloween, the bible says it's ok to eat food sacrificed to idols but it does not say I am to sacrifice to idols to get that food. If I buy a bag of candy that has Halloween pictures all over it, I'm not going to think twice about eating that bag of candy, but I have no plans to go door to door dressed as a witch to threaten people for their candy or I'll TP their yard.

We dress up and pass out candy, we usually have about 150 kids. I enjoy seeing all the little ones dressed in there outfits, and meeting all my neighbors. I like it how everyone is outside. It is a small town. The police are on bike patrols and hand out stickers to the kids they meet. It is an excellent time to get to know those around you.
I do have one rule for my kids nothing evil and the costume has to be home made.

I finally realized...well woke back up....to see that all types of paganism is of the devil, no ifs ands or buts about it.
what matters most is that HALLOWEEN OFFENDS ALMIGHTY GOD !!!...... nuff said:ohno
Amen to both of those posts! I know I've said this elsewhere, but it is unfortunate how many CHRISTIANS don't take these truths seriously...thinking it's OK to dabble in Halloween, Harry Potter, and other manifestations of paganism and the occult. :ohno

even worse...we waste our time argueing over things that really don't matter...sprinkle or dunk...hymns or contemporary songs...KJV or NIV...meanwhile the enemy has infiltrated, and we call it clean fun...how sad.

:thumb completely agree with this. God has not asked us to put our own opinion into this, He has told us to obey.

I grew up under the spirit of witchcraft and saw the damage the occult does to people. This is a pagan occult laden holiday, and my spirit will not let me take part in it.I have been saved and delivered from the clutches of the occult and neither me or my family will give it any form of promotion.:ohno
All glory, honor and praise to Jesus my soon coming King!! :pray

Christmas has Pagan roots as well. Where do you draw the line?
