Now that the last of our three kids has crossed the 18 year mark, they are free to do as they feel led. But, during all the years prior, the only "holidays" we marked in any way were Thanksgiving (which seemed to be a good thing for us to do always) and New Years (where we would remember the blessings from the prior year and thank Him for seeing us through.) We explained the reasons behind our choices, and our kids were appreciative for us being honest with them (even when they were very young). But, each of us have to be true to what we are led to do by the Holy Spirit. There can't be a right or wrong choice if we each are following God's lead in the matter.

Now, as for what were the most special times in our family, it would be hands down when we five would celebrate the Lord's Supper. If you've never tried this as a family, I can't even begin to recommend it enough. Just to have those few moment set aside in rememberence, to consider what took place in the past and what is promised in the future... Some of the closest times we've had as a family.

Sweetie, I do know what the definition of the word celebrate is. And, Yes, I am the one who was surprised that any of you consider that people "celebrate" Halloween. I don't care what the "definition" is. We do not worship the pagan rituals that go along with " All Hallow's Eve".

It's just a bunch of kids dressing up and getting candy. I completely respect the choices made by those of you that don't do Halloween. However, it is wrong to try to push it down everyone's throats and play "I'm a better Christian than you".

God knows my heart and the hearts of my children. I do not feel any pressure from Him that I am doing wrong by taking my kids trick-or-treating. He is the one I have to answer to and no one else.

i'm sorry- but you took offense at the word 'celebrate' as if it was used incorrectly. YOU were the one who became incredulous at the fact that people actually USED the word correctly to describe something that you seem to want to mean otherwise.

as i already said above i posted the meaning because of your post, not to play the better christian card. so please don't try to pretty-up your assertation that i am 'judging you' by calling me "sweetie". its a nice endearment if it isn't being used in a condescending way..which you seem to be doing...and used that way its just disingenuous. i'd much rather you call me what you really mean than pretend otherwise.

if you have a problem with people who choose not to celebrate halloween because it makes you feel judged, thats unfortunate....but don't lay that judgement down at my feet, it ain't coming from me. nobody called you or your family evil for celebrating, nobody said that your kids would turn into axe murderers because you celebrate halloween, and nobody said that you were a 'bad' christian, either. most of my friends and loved ones, even in my church, celebrate halloween...and i love them and respect them and would never call them bad christians. i would appreciate you not maligning my integrity by insisting that was my intent, because you are wrong. all i ever said is that we don't celebrate (in ANY sense of the word) because it does not honor God and i posted an intriguing, non-emotional (unlike me. lol) article that layed out the reasons why quite concisely. if you don't feel any pressure that you're doing anything wrong, then you shouldn't need to defend your choices to me. as you have already alluded, its not my opinion that matters, its God's.

Scrappergirl - I have to say that you were the one who started with the condescending tony by assuming anyone didn't know the difinition of the word celebrate.

To each his own.

um. no. you chose to take it that way. so be it. i don't see how posting a definition to clarify why a word is used is CONDESCENDING. now, had i added some kind of comment starting with 'honey' or 'love' or something, adn then ripped into you, i'd have to say that you'd be right. it'd have been me "starting" it.
in any case,
i'm not going to argue with you about nonsense.
go in peace.
