Firstly, hi to all. 1st time poster :)

Now, do you guys know that Christmas and Easter were once pagan holidays?

"Deus Sol Invictus" (the Unconquered Sun God) was celebrated on December 25 by the romans in a festival called "Dies Natalis Solis Invicti" (the birthday of the unconquered sun).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dies_Natalis_Solis_Invicti

Easter is actually an adaption of the name of a Pagan god called Eostre. Eostre's festival was a celebration of the spring equinox, of fertility, and hence why easter eggs exist (symbol of fertility). The pagan calendar used lunar months, Eostur-monath (Easter Month, April) starts with a new moon.

Does this mean we are sinning if we celebrate them? Mistletoe for instance, that's a blatant pagan symbol. And Santa Claus - nothing to do with Jesus. Easter bunny, a pagan fertility symbol of the god Eostre!

Why then do we celebrate these as holidays?? Shouldn't we have our own holy days that aren't borrowed from the pagans? We should cast off these pagan symbols!

Welcome to RR, Orion
Yes most everything is a branch of the Pagan ways. Easter, I have changed to Resurrection Day... Christmas... is still CHRISTmas to me....it would be cool if we could learn the actual period Christ was born... then we in Christ could celebrate His true birthdate.

I have to admit that for my own reasons, I'm not big on holidays except for children's birthdays and my wedding anniversary. We invented our own "Winter holiday" so the kids wouldn't feel left out!

This will be my first season as a Christian, so I may go to a C-Mas service, simply to celebrate Him, but we won't do the whole C-Mas thing at my house. Not in any traditional or usual form, anyhow!

I check this sight monthly. I some of my daughters at school friends are children of "white" witches, so I keep myself informed on their group's activities. It's a very good, user friendly site.

It's great that you're checking on that. Yes, I do admit I was once on there....talk about being blinded!! And I do pray for the local pagans to see the light and the truth instead of throwing yourself into who knows what with this stuff!

Just a question---Rick Warren....what's his deal? I could probably ask the same about Joel Olsteen.
