I keep Christmas Christ centered, even with a tree. I know some want to get rid of anything that's commercialized Christmas. But have you ever heard the expression "throwing out the baby with the bath water"? Be careful when you throw out the bad stuff , that you don't toss the good with it.

I kinda like Biblenuggetlady's idea. That's a good compromise.
Rachael59, completely understandable. :hug

I don't see the big deal either way, as long as someone doesn't start worshipping the tree. :heh Have a tree, don't have a tree, either is fine, IMO. We don't have one, as I don't see the point. I also think it is a very important concept to teach children that Christ was not actually born on Dec. 25th. This knowledge actually helps me to celebrate His birth year round since we don't know the exact date (although many feel it was around September).
I also like the idea of learning about Hanukkah this time of year, because it is mentioned in the Bible and teaches us how God will provide.

I fully agree with you. I like to combine the two aspects, myself: the sacred with the festive. Then you truly have a festive, joyous, meaningful Christmas.

I am decorating my palm tree instead this year....hahaha I am putting my "names of Jesus" ornaments only-on it. The palm branches are a symbol of "victory in Christ"-so I now have a witnessing tool should anyone come by. :) I needed to start my own traditions this year and this is my first one.
:shocked Names of Jesus ornaments?!
I've gotta get some of those!!
How cool!

These are my views...if you see it is an idol when you should not have one..We don't there is much joy from ours.....
An idol?....:doh...gggggggggggggg

Actually Christ was born in a Cave.......the Jews used caves for places to hold their livestock. We were in Bethlehem and saw the Cave in which they think is the original scene of where Christ was born. The Nativity. It has a church over it now but it is still a cave.

I've heard and read a couple of times He was born at Sukkoth in a Sukkah.

Jesus Christ the Messiah is prophesied to be born in Bethlehem. If He was NOT born in Bethlehem then the prophecy is not fulfilled about Him.

Sukkoth is the Jewish feast of Tabernacles, so what they mean is that they have heard that He may have been born during the feast of Tabernacles in one of the booths set up for the feast day. ;)
