Actually, if I remember it correctly, the solstice is celebrated because after that day, the days begin getting longer again, and the nights shorter. It's actually more of a celebration that spring is coming, rather than celebrating the start of winter.

Sorry but that's not it.

General paganism might agree with your claim, but not real witches. The nights become longer than days, and that is part of their celebration.

Is Christmas according to the Bible?

Does man have the power to declare something holy?

Is not this verse relevant?

Jer 10:2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.

Tio,

Mat 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

I dont know alot of this subject but I had some neighbors that moved in a couple of years back, they seemed nice, but after a small get together, we found out they was Pagan. We told then we are Christian. Well, they didnt come to get togethers much after that. Im sure it was a spiritual thing. I read on them & its basically witchcraft it sounded like. Well they moved a few months later.

lavendar, what do you think of this verse from Colosians 2:16?
16: Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath [days]: 17: Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body [is] of Christ.

Do you allow men to judge you if you happen to want a cheeseburger (no mixing meat and milk products, you know! hehe)? A bacon and egg breakfast? Some sausage on your pizza? A ham sandwich? A nice pork roast? If you have wine with your dinner or enjoy occasional beers on the weekend, do you want someone coming up to you and condemning you for drinking alcohol? Anytime we celebrate Christ, these aren't under condemnation either.
Romans 8:1- [There is] therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Now, of course, as Tio has said, there IS a consideration for HOW these holydays (holiday) are celebrated. We've decided, with the kids, that there will be no Santa stories, no "gifts from Santa", no stockings that Santa fills, (I don't think our 4 year old knows what "Santa" is. hehe), etc... St. Nicholas, as far as we know, was a follower of Christ hundreds of years ago who is in heaven and we'll meet him on the day of the Rapture and nothing else. This is how our family have chosen to celebrate God's gift to us of His one and only Son (and, Jesus not REALLY being born on December 25th really doesn't matter, because we're celebrating HIM, not the date. Sometimes we don't always celebrate the boys' birthdays ON that day... if it's during the school week, we celebrate it on Saturday, etc... it matters that they have a special day where we show how much we love them and that they're special, not the date it's done on). We have a tree at Christmas because they're beautiful with the multicolor lights, hung with ornaments that we've collected, various sized and shaped crosses, a shiny representation of the wise men following the Star of Bethlehem, a really cute little ornament of a little girl holding a birthday cake on which is written Happy Birthday, Jesus! etc... etc... It's not just lights and tinsel, it's a showcase for our faith messages!

On Resurrection Sunday, it's all about Jesus. We go to Resurrection Sunday service at church and worship joyfully, celebrating with our brothers and sisters in Christ. We get chocolate crosses, we've phased out eggs, we get them presents from CBD to celebrate the joyful occasion of Jesus overcoming death and having victory over death and the grave! Maybe we get the little guy a stuffed lamb instead of a rabbit, etc... I don't see how these things can be considered "pagan" since it's COMPLETELY around celebrating Christ's love for us and joying in our love for Him! :)

We no longer celebrate Halloween, but, since our daughter's birthday is in October, we have a special day where we get several bags of candy and I stand in the kitchen, tear open the bags and toss all that candy up into the air into the livingroom and the kids scramble to find it. :lol2 They have a BLAST! If the church we attend is having a Harvest Festival, we'll go to that as well (as long as the rules of the harvest festival specifically are that there are no "occultic" costumes... no ghouls, ghosts, skeletons, vampires, witches, etc... etc... Most churches do have those regulations about approved costumes. Our kids don't dress up by choice and that's no big deal to anyone either.

We're not "doing as pagans do", we're just loving, worshipping and celebrating our Lord and our God with the best information we have.

no

Well, that's good to know. Both the argument you gave for not celebrating birthdays parties AND the concern you have for Christmas are exactly the same as JW cult members... so I was concerned. I remember when the JW lady was visiting me (a VERY sweet lady, by the way, I did enjoy her visits and I was NOT saved at the time) and telling me why they didn't allow their children to celebrate birthdays... I told her, "Well, that's the first rule at our birthday parties, NO MURDERS!" :lol2

Dear Faithful Servant,

Amen to your prayer as written. Heavenly Father, I come to you in prayer today asking for forgiveness. I humbly ask for forgiveness for being judgemental towards my fellow countrymen and women, your creation. I pray for the souls of this lost and dying world, that they repent and accept Jesus Christ as thier Savior before it is everlasting too late. I pray that I will be a better witness for Jesus Christ and give you all the honor, glory and praise. God, please lead me and guide me to be a better servant. Father, I pray for my country that they return to you. I am thankful you are in control and that your will will be done. Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. God, thank you for continuing to provide for me and my family. Please forgive me where I have failed you. I pray today in the precious and holy name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Thank you for your service to our country and the freedoms we have because of your sacrifice.

We celebrate Christmas as Christs birthday. Give each other gifts to remind us of God's gift to us. No Santa silliness.

We do not celebrate Easter, we celebrate Resurrection Day. The colored eggs are for fun and games on this day we talk about what Christ did when He came back to life. No freaky bunnies breaking and entering our homes to hide eggs all over.

We look at it like this: We tell our little children who believe their parents completely that there is a Santa, when there is not, that there is a tooth fairy, easter bunny, *add fairy tales of choice here* and then we also tell them that God gave His son who died and came back to life! So believe believe believe!
As they get older the fairy tales fall away one by one. As we see it, we just refuse to even let the true history of Christ even near the catagory of unseen wonderful beings that they one day find out and discover were lies.

We have just as much fun on holidays, and none of the lies. What is so wrong with kid knowing the pressies came from Gramma instead of Santa? Why have a holiday about Christ revolve around a rabbit? What a waste of time invested into commercialism.

Our 2 cents.

Oh, I SO agree, funmudder! Our 4 year old has never heard the word Santa out of our mouths! When the boys lose a tooth, they show it to dad and he hands them a dollar, and no, bunnies do not deliver eggs at our house. hehe We were walking to church one Resurrection Sunday morning and a neighbor asked the boys if the Easter Bunny had been to our house. My middle son says, "No, we're Christians." :aha I did add a codicil that some Christians DO still have Easter Bunny as part of their celebration, but that we've decided not to. :lol2 The boys agreed with me that bringing all these fictitious and make-believe "people" into our family WOULD make it harder for baby Caleb to believe in God when he finds out all the other things he can't see, but have been taught to believe in, aren't real. So they don't mind missing the things we used to do because they were explained WHY we wanted to phase them out AND they were involved in making the decision to do so.

Willow, I am not disputing that right to voice one's opinion. I am merely voicing my opinion as to some posters "over-generalization" of their perceptions of the overall quality of the environment of NJ and their perceived arrogance to judge all who live within that state. They are not God and they have no right to judge the inhabitants of NJ. BTW, I don't live in NJ. I must again ask the question, who are they to judge? Jesus said (paraphrase) Let those without sin cast the first stone!:preach

BTW- I am sure the Georgian government and the US military would love to give you the opportunity to "die to defend [your] right to...." My suggestion is "be careful what you ask for!" Only God knows those challenges and expectations that are before us as individuals and as a nation.

I don't recall "asking" for anything.:scratch
