His Bride

I can relate to both views of the holidays and their roots...however wedding rings have pagan roots as well. Should I not wear one?

I personally think Halloween is an obvious one. I don't celebrate it nor will my kids, but Christmas is a season where people give and help the needy and contribute to Good things rather than bad (For the most part). I can't see that as bad but maybe I am just to early in my Christian walk.

I agree with you. My family opted out for many many years. My children are adults now. I have strong personal feelings about Halloween, but I also do not hold others to my belief. Most holidays have pagan roots, but I think to celebrate the birth and resurrection of our Lord is wonderful and should be celebrated in a manner that would be pleasing to Him.

Katey - You're back! And then logged off so soon. I wondered if I scared you off with my questions to you in New Members. :wave

No you did not scare me :hug

My family (my husband, kids and I) chooes not to celebrate Halloween simply because I can find no good in it. And I don't mind if others choose to celebrate Halloween. BUT we don't. Instead, we have family movie night with popcorn/one box of candy and watch Monsters, Inc. or something like that...the kids love it...and now that they attend a school that doesn't have holiday parties in school, it is easy and the kids don't feel different or left out.

:wave No, I do not look down on other Christians who celebrate Pagan holidays.

:( It is just that, I am tired of being fooled around by different religions. I was once a Roman Catholic. I was also once a Pentecostal who was against the Trinity. I was also once a part of the Church of Christ who add to God's grace, water baptism for salvation. I am sick of taking part of any false religion - including their false holidays. That is why I do not care if the whole world will celebrate pagan holidays; I will not take part in any of it.

But praise God He plucked me out from all of them! Now, my faith stands on the Word of God alone.

And concerning the Birth of Christ; if our Lord's sacrifice is so well-known, do you think His birth will go unheralded? Even His 'manger' strongly hints of a Sukkot or a booth.

Maranatha!

You've had an interesting path through the different religious traditions. I'm glad you've made it so far - the Lord truly is good!

Just two quick things pertaining to what I've boldened -

1) If you don't judge fellow believers, you won't use judgmental, pejorative language, like saying Christians "celebrate pagan holidays".

From the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks, remember.

2) Yes, His birth was "unheralded" in the sense that we don't know the exact day it was; we may, as you say, have a "hint". Nothing to be dogmatic about. If the Lord didn't tell us in His Word, the specific day must not be important for us to know. :thinking

Christmas does not equal Santa Claus, imo.

It is, for many, a time to worship and thank the God Who sent His Son into our dark world, bound by sin, to save all of us who call on His Name...

We may not agree. Every one needs to follow their God-enlightened conscience.

What none of us can do is to judge one another in terms of holidays, as was said before, per Colossians 2:16.

Couldn't be clearer. Agreed?

I am so sorry if I offend others. And I am so sorry for being judgmental. I will not try to justify myself. :)

And yes, we can agree to disagree.
