His Bride

When our children were young we felt that God was impressing upon us that we should opt out of Halloween. We did our research but felt that if God told us not to, then we would obey. That said, we did not hold others to what God had told us. As time went on we also opted out of church Harvest festivals, which were really the christianized version of Halloween. It was a personal choice for our family. We have had to make other such choices over the years and have no regrets.

I am seriously feeling led this Halloween to opt out. As a matter of fact, before I had a child, I had a growing disgust towards this Holiday and even more so now that I realize the origins of this so-called, "harmless" Holiday.

HALLOWEEN, DARK ORIGINS

Halloween ~ Not for Christians

In just a few days the little ones around the nation, and some adults, will don outfits designed to make ‘fun’ out of that which is evil: witch, warlock, goblin, ghosts, devils, ‘Jason’ costumes, aliens, etc. Of what origin are the practices of trick or treat, jack-o-lanterns and the like? Centuries ago, pagans believed in an evil goddess, Hecate, a Titan earth mother of witches and wizards. The name is derived from the Egyptian goddess Heka (”sorcery” or “magical“). Witches [’Wiccan’, sounds too innocuous. Rather than the practice of Wicca let’s call it what it is witchcraft.] used a substance Hecate - a hallucinogenic plant - which as the tale goes fell from the spit of Cerebus - the three-headed guard dog of hell.

This so-called ‘goddess’ Heka has a different name/role, Hecate-Proplaia, “the one before the gate“, where she supposedly guards the entrance of homes and temples from nefarious outside evils. She has a connection to graveyards and ‘protecting’ of the dead [God has affixed a permanent gulf between the living and the dead!]. She is also known as Hecate-Phosphoros, “the light bearer“, her most sacred title which sounds eerily like the most evil spirit, Satan, whose original name was Lucifer “the light bearer“. In addition to ‘earth’ worship there has always been feminism, which originates with this so-called Hecate goddess. It was her role as feminist earth-goddess-spirit that caused people to lend divinity to her and to revere her.

Back then people believed that in order to protect themselves, their children and belongings, this Hecate goddess must be appeased by setting out cakes (interesting that Roman Catholic Church calls ‘mary’ the ‘queen of heaven‘). We can trace this goddess worship back to the Israelites:

* Jeremiah 44:19a - And when we burned incense to the queen of heaven, and poured out drink offerings to her, did we make her cakes to worship her

Of note is the worship of earth today. There is ‘earth day’ and the obsession with so-called ‘global warming’ as if the planet is a living entity. All the crazed talk about ‘carbon footprints’, ‘overpopulation’, and the like are a fulfillment of scripture for the last days:

* “Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. amen” Romans 1:25

Celtic occultists adopted the Hecatian myths and, perhaps, birthed what we now know as Halloween:

* People visiting neighboring homes on Halloween night represent the dead in search of food (the treat)
* Masks of devils and hobgoblins represent evil spirits seeking mischief (the trick)
* Those who pass out candy represent the homes visited by the dead, or may also represent worried individuals seeking to appease Hecate and other nighttime terrors
* The Jack-o-Lantern is supposed to be a wandering soul existing between heaven and hell. Druids used Jack-o-Lanterns to ward off evil spirits from their homes.

It is quite clear this is all of the demonic realm - there truly is nothing new under the sun (Eccl 1:9). Christian parents counsel their children that God wants us to have nothing to do with the works of darkness and to not mess around with the occult - Ouiji boards, tarot cards, Wicca, etc. What message does it send our kids when this wise counsel does not apply with regard to Halloween?

* Ephesians 5:11 - And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
* 2 Corinthians 6:14 - Be ye not unequally yoked with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

Thanks, Sing! Unfortunately, these are truths many people will still continue to ignore. "Halloween is just for fun, let the kids dress up and get candy" That is what I keep hearing from people. :doh

I also think, because of the super-availability of cable TV and the internet, that Halloween has turned into a much bigger holiday than it used to be.

When I was a kid, back in the '60's, we would dress up. Our school had a costume contest and parade during the day, and we'd trick or treat at night. You might be lucky enough to hear "Monster Mash" on the radio that morning.

Period.

Nowadays, the Halloween "season" seems to last throughout October. The worse, goriest and most macabre films are constantly on TV, there are History Channel specials on Satan and demons, and people go nuts decorating their houses with gravestones, fake mutilated corpses, etc.

Bottom line, it's just gotten to be too much. We avoid Halloween now, and go out to dinner and to a movie instead. IMO it stopped being about candy and costumes a long time ago and became something much darker.

Yes, it seems that during this month, you can't find anything decent to watch because it all glorifies this stupid Holiday. Even the children's channels are full of Halloween nonsense. :tsk
