My general attitude is I will not celebrate Santa, nor will I help lie to a child.

It seems to me there is plenty of room for either position. If the apostles were not constrained from eating that which came from pagan sacrifice, then we do well to follow the advice given them. It's about conscience, about whether we would stumble someone, and whether or not our actions bring glory/honor to God.

1 Corinthians 10:23"Everything is permissible"—but not everything is beneficial. "Everything is permissible"—but not everything is constructive. 24Nobody should seek his own good, but the good of others.
25Eat anything sold in the meat market without raising questions of conscience, 26for, "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it."

27If some unbeliever invites you to a meal and you want to go, eat whatever is put before you without raising questions of conscience. 28But if anyone says to you, "This has been offered in sacrifice," then do not eat it, both for the sake of the man who told you and for conscience' sake — 29the other man's conscience, I mean, not yours. For why should my freedom be judged by another's conscience? 30If I take part in the meal with thankfulness, why am I denounced because of something I thank God for?

31So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. 32Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God— 33even as I try to please everybody in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.

Amen Sassy. Well said. The only negative things I see from my kids trickortreating are the piles of candy they accumulate during the evening. Fortunately I've trained them from a young age to turn over at least half of it to their parents (they generally fill a couple of very large bowls with the castaway), then we dispose of that so they don't eat quite so much candy.

A thought came to me while listening to Christmas music.

You had to be "good" to get gifts from Santa and now people think if you are "good" you will go to heaven.

The true Santa, Saint Nicholas, lived the message of the true Christmas. The commercial Santa was the creation of human beings. Yes, his message is a false sense of salvation.

But, no one will ever destroy Christianity. Satan tried by crucifying our Lord. But he didn't succeed, as it was all part of God's Divine Plan. Our King Jesus sits on the throne. He is coming again. Rejoice!

Cindy S,
You are confusing being good at christmas time with the gift giving with Christianity?
Surely you realize the difference. I understand what you are saying about people growing up thinking that being 'good' is what is needed in order to be rewarded.
Christianity will never be destroyed by any idea or by anyone.
Our God is King! He reigns in the heavenlies and is coming for us.
Be happy and of good cheer during the christmas time and all the year through.
Enjoy Santa and the spirit in which Santa exists. God is good.
Don't dwell on the negative.

I'm not confused. :)
I have friends and family that think they'll go to heaven because they are good people.
I'm just making the connection between the promise of a present from "santa" if you are good, to the idea that people think they'll go to heaven if they lead "good" lives.
They don't want to hear the "GOD" talk, etc. It's so sad.
I should have put a different title up. :hat

So All the powers of Hell can't destroy the Church, but an imaginary figure can ?

When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”

“Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.”

Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?”

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”

Jesus replied, “You are blessed, Simon son of John, because my Father in heaven has revealed this to you. You did not learn this from any human being. Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it. And I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.”
