I agree... I have seen this one before:

That print with St. Nick & the Nativity is really cool. Although I've got no issues with Christmas, other than the emphasis being on the wrong things sometimes, I was always weirded out by "He knows when you are sleeping, he knows when you're awake" in reference to Santa Claus. This image brings it all back to size...:thumb

I love this print. In fact, one year we were in Disneyland and I was looking around in the Christmas shop. Found a figure of Santa kneeling. In his pocket was a bible. Of course, I bought it because it says it all! I generally place it next to the Nativity set.

I agree with Jack Kelley on many things and have great respect for him, but on this issue, I must part company with him.

Me, too. I find it odd that he took the Jeremiah passage out of context. He's usually much more exegetically sound. I know of no one who actually worships the Christmas Tree.

Look at the passage itself...

For the customs of the peoples are worthless;

This is, of course, true. My wife had her office's Christmas party last night and she was saying how sad it was that many of them don't know the Lord when she got home. And I told her that it's because they and we have different foundations, sadly enough. Yes, the customs of those who don't have Jesus in their lives are worthless.

they cut a tree out of the forest,

Okay...

and a craftsman shapes it with his chisel.

So this isn't a reference to Christmas Trees. He shapes it with a chisel meaning that he is shaping it out of the wood.

They adorn it with silver and gold; they fasten it with hammer and nails so it will not totter.” (Jeremiah 10:3-4)

Therefore, this is not a reference to garland or Christmas Tree ornaments as I've heard some say, or the base.

I do agree with much else that Jack says here...however, I'm not sure what "pagan" ritual he is referencing in some parts. Since I was young I've always associated Christmas with the smell of pine. Does the smell of pine make me want to praise Thor, or some god of the underworld? No. It's simply a part of the season where we acknowledge the Lord's birth (because we also know that Jesus wasn't born at this particular time of the year anyway). So there is no spiritual adultery going on with me when it comes to this season. I used to attend a Messianic Congregation, and was lambasted by one fellow for celebrating Christmas. He went on and on about how the Christmas Tree was some form of phallic something or other, and I told him that it was in no way a fertility rite in our household...just a tree with some pretty ornaments...and these ornaments in no way caused me to be spiritually adulterous with any God beside that of Israel.

I don't think that "Jesus Is The Reason for the Season" has failed. He is the reason...regardless of what other groups want to say.

I hadn't heard of Rosh Hashana as the Lord's birthday...interesting. I had heard some speculate it may have been on or around Tabernacles (Sukkot).

I've just saved this picture as my background image on my computer. Maybe I can use this to show my 6 year old step-daughter that even Santa loves Jesus. It seems no matter how often DH and I try to explain to her Christmas is about Jesus and not Santa, she just can't seem to grasp it.

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,
Right down Santa Claus lane,
Vixen and Blitzen and all his reindeer
Pullin' on the reins.
Bells are ringin', children singin',
All is merry and bright.
Hang your stockings and say your prayers,
'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight!

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,
Right down Santa Claus lane.
He's got a bag that's filled with toys
For boys and girls again.
Hear those sleigh bells jingle jangle,
Oh what a beautiful sight!
So jump in bed and cover your head,
'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight!

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,
Right down Santa Claus lane.
He doesn't care if you're rich or poor,
He loves you just the same.
Santa Claus knows we're all God's children.
That makes everything right.
So fill your hearts with Christmas cheer,
'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight!

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,
Right down Santa Claus lane.
He'll come around when the chimes ring out
That it's Christmas morn again.
Peace on earth will come to all
It we just follow the light,
So lets give thanks to the Lord above
That Santa Claus comes tonight!

Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus,
Right down Santa Claus lane,
Vixen and Blitzen and all his reindeer
Pullin' on the reins.
Bells are ringin', children singin',
All is merry and bright.
Hang your stockings and say your prayers,
'Cause Santa Claus comes tonight!

Hey guys, is there any of you that doesn't celebrate Christmas here. If so are you finding it hard or getting pressure from friends and family?

I love Christmas because I have an almost 3 year old and a 6 year old....and it's fun to watch the excitement in their eyes....and to explain to them that we are celebrating Jesus' birthday....but I understand where you are coming from....
